Milan - German Shepherd Dog and Mixed Breed Dog for Adoption in New York, New York

Milan is a 2-year-old German Shepherd mix who weighs around 63 lbs, and resilient does not even begin to cover her. A few months ago, she was found near one of our rescue partners' ranches after being dumped while pregnant and badly injured. With a broken leg and very little food, Milan made a shelter in the trees for her puppies and somehow kept every one of them healthy and fed while she became skin and bones herself. At one point, she even made her way to the road, barked for help, and led people back to her babies.

After rescue, Milan's injured front leg ultimately had to be amputated, so she is now a tripod. You would never know from her personality that she has been through so much. She is incredibly gentle, patient, affectionate, and happiest when she is close to her people. Milan will tuck her head into your lap or push it into your hands for more pets, and nearly every video we get of her involves her cuddling whoever happens to be nearby. She is dog friendly, though she can be vocal with other dogs and sometimes uses barking to communicate.

Milan spent so much time taking care of everyone else. Her puppies are grown and adopted, she has healed from her surgery, and now it is finally her turn to be the one looked after.
