Corn Chips came to us from a shelter. He ended up at the shelter because his owner passed away and the family had no where for him to go.

Corn Chips’ glass is half full, he is the kind of dog who has never had a bad day and is just happy to be included. Corn Chips is a sweet boy who just wants to make you happy. Corn Chips really loves people and just wants to be around you. He’s happy to follow you around the house, help with yardwork, or sit with you on the couch. Corn Chips loves every single person he meets. When he goes on walks you can see he is hoping that every person wants to stop to say hi, but he doesn't pull you towards them or both them if they just pass without acknowledging him.
Corn Chips is a very unique mix of an energetic 3 year old and a couch potato. If you are sitting on the couch he loves nothing more than to curl up next to you for as long as you want, but if you get up he’s going to enthusiastically join you. He loves going for walks and hops like a bunny and can barely contain his excitement while you get him “dressed.” But once he is outside he calms right down and walks pretty well for a young guy. He’s not pulling you down the street nor zigging and zagging constantly. He likes to alternate between walking nicely down the sidewalk and stopping to check out the smells of the world. He will pull a little for a really good smell, but he’s agreeable to being redirected if you don’t want to stop at that time.
Corn Chips was in a playgroup in the shelter and liked to play with the other larger dogs. He has met a few dogs in the City and he has done well, but he is a little awkward at first. It is likely that he never met dogs on-leash. Corn Chips should not be adopted to homes with small dogs or cats. He has prey drive - and although he was previously fostered with both, it seems that faster moving small dogs and cats can trigger his prey drive at times. It is not aggression - just a dog with a prey drive doing dog stuff, but nonetheless is not safe for smaller animals. He has always stopped himself, but it is not a risk worth taking.
Corn Chips was briefly fostered at the shelter and those homes left him out alone while they were gone and he was not destructive. He is currently being crated, he is agreeable and sits quietly and waits for you to get home. He might be able to be trusted out of his crate based on his past experiences being left out. He is minimally interested in toys and chews and hasn’t chewed on anything like shoes etc.
Corn Chips rides really well in the car and seems eager to go along. Corn Chips seems to know he isn’t supposed to jump up on people so instead he just jumps up or kind of stands on his back legs. Every once in a while he will put his paws on you on accident. He is the kind of dog who tries really hard to do what you want him to do, but sometimes his joy gets in the way. He was jumping up on the baby gate but has quickly learned that he needs to have all the paws on the ground before you will open it. Sometimes he needs a reminder, but you can see it click in and he will sit and wait. He does knows sit - but sometimes is hesitant to sit on slippery surfaces, he probably slides a little bit.
Corn Chips has not been fostered with children, but he is a happy, friendly guy who would likely be appropriate for children old enough to manage his size and not be bumped over.
Corn Chips barks on occasion, but doesn’t bark for the sake of hearing himself. When the other dogs in his foster home barks he always goes to check out what they’re barking at, but doesn’t always join in.
Corn Chips was used to having a dog door in his previous home, he does not mark in the house and has done really well except a few small accidents as he adjusts to not being able to go out whenever he wants.
Corn Chips is heartworm positive (*He has a test to confirm this soon*). He will need heartworm treatment that involves three injections followed by a period of low activity. (Our vets typically prescribe sedating medication to assist with this period of low activity for their safety.) Of course, this treatment is covered by the rescue. We are happy to explain more if you are interested in him.
