Socialization: Settie is friendly and welcoming when meeting new people. She is well-socialized and gets along well with men, women, and children. She enjoys meeting new people and is comfortable around others. She has a submissive personality and is not dominant and generally gets along well with other dogs. She does best with calmer dogs that will not pester her and will give her space. She will happily coexist with other dogs but is not interested in playing with them. She is also good with cats. She generally ignores them and does not feel the need to interact, making her a good fit for a home with cats.

Training: Settie does not know any formal commands yet, but she is well behaved in the house. She does not need to be crated during the day, but being crated at night helps her settle down and sleep comfortably. She is approximately 90% housetrained and continues to make progress. She may still have an occasional accident inside the house, but she is learning and improving with consistency, patience, and a regular potty schedule. Crating her while away can help with making sure she does not have an accident in the house while people are away.

Activity requirements: She enjoys going on walks and gets 2–3 leash walks per day, typically 20+ minutes each. She is good on the leash with slight pulling at times, but overall walks well. Leash walks are sufficient for her daily exercise needs, and she does not require daily off-leash running as long as she is getting regular walks and attention. She can also enjoy running and playing off-leash in a safely fenced area. Our current routine of 2–3 walks per day, 20+ minutes each, seems to meet her exercise needs and leaves her happily tired and ready to relax at home.

Fence requirements: She would be happy in either a home with a fenced yard or a home that primarily exercises her through leash walks. A fenced yard would be a nice bonus for additional playtime, but it is not required. If a fenced yard is available, a standard-height fence would be sufficient for her. An invisible fence may also be an option for her.

Personality: Settie is a sweet, loving girl who enjoys cuddling and being close to her humans the most. She is a mix of independent and affectionate, but she definitely loves spending time with her people. She is very cuddly, playful, and social, while also having a slightly timid side. Once she feels comfortable, she loves to relax beside her humans, receive affection, and enjoy playtime. She has a gentle personality and would make a wonderful companion for someone looking for a loving, cuddly dog.

Health history: When she first arrived, she tested positive for hookworms but she received treatment, and the issue has been resolved. She is currently doing well and has no known ongoing medical issues or special medical care requirements that an adopter needs to be aware of. She is spayed, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations and on monthly heartworm prevention. Her next leishmaniasis test is due in June 2027.

This dog originates from Greece where Leishmaniasis is endemic. They tested negative before coming to the USA, but the parasite can remain dormant in the system for many years, so potential adopters must be willing to commit to annual testing for the next 7 years. Typically, the test needs to be sent to a special lab, but any regular vet can draw the blood and send it to the lab. The cost of the test seems to vary widely by area, but is approximately $150-$250. or if your vet is willing to send the test to a veterinary college lab, cost can be as low as $80.

Foster comments: She is a very sweet girl who loves her humans and is a constant happy light in our home. She brings so much love and joy to everyone around her and has a wonderful, affectionate personality. She loves cuddling, spending time with her people, and being part of the family. She would be fine as an only dog but can also happily coexist with another, calmer dog. We would love to see her go to a loving home where she will be treated as a member of the family, receive plenty of affection and attention, and continue to grow and learn. A home that is patient, caring, and willing to give her the love she deserves would be ideal. She has so much love to give and would make a wonderful companion to someone looking for a sweet, happy, and affectionate dog.

Foster location: Humble, TX

Transport note: We are able to arrange volunteer transport to get dogs from their foster home to their adopter as long as the adopter and the foster are within a 1,000 mile radius of each other and the adopter is located in the USA. If the adopter is more than 1,000 miles from the foster home, adoption would only be possible if the adopter is willing to drive the distance beyond the 1,000-mile transport limit. Long distance adoptions may also be possible if the adopter is willing to pay for a flight to get their dog from the foster home to their location if the foster feels this is an appropriate arrangement for the specific dog. Canadian adopters would have to drive into the USA to pick up their dog, as we do not transport outside of the USA.
