DESCRIPTION

FOUND ABANDONED WITH A BUNCH OF OLD TIRES

So yep, that is how he got the name Cooper. (Cooper tires)

One of our volunteers was traveling on a gravel road on the local native reservation, pulling her horse trailer heading for a trail ride, when she saw in the distance, what looked like several dead dogs laying in the road. It was July 3rd and fireworks had been going strong on the reservation, so her worst fears rose up in her heart but fortunately, as she got closer, she found it was just old tires someone had thoughtfully dumped in the middle of the road BUT, sitting to the side of the road, looking very confused and hopeful, was a young red pup.

She stopped to see if he would come but he would not, so she moved the tires out of the way and made a mental not to check for him when returning home. On her way back a few hours later, he was nowhere to be seen but she stopped anyway and sat on a big rock and called out in her best, "I won't hurt you voice" and within minutes, he appeared from the grass and sage. This time, he came to her and she was able to load him up and take him home. The abandoned tires were Coopers so that was his new name and he has proven to be a very nice boy.

Cooper is about ten months old and currently weighs 45lbs. He will grow a bit more but not much. We do not expect him to reach 60lbs We cannot say for sure what breed Cooper is. He has the lovey red and gold coloring of a red Dobie, with the long angular face but is the size of a cattle dog or heeler, which are prominent in this part of the country. Initially, his red coat was sun burned to a lighter blond and had the texture of hog hair but living with good food and a solid worming schedule has seen that burned dry stuff begin to fall out, leaving behind a soft, rich, dark chestnut color contrasting against the gold. Cooper also had ring worm and giardia so needed some TLC but is all mended up now and a very nice, happy, easy to have around guy.

Cooper is dog and cat friendly but not a push over or immune to chasing cats that run. If there are other dogs in the home, we hope they are easy going and social too, so he can relax and enjoy his new friendships. Reservation life can make a guy a little wary. Cats should be able to stand their ground and if they can, he will lay right next to them for nap time and even play with them.

He loves kids.

If you were looking for a travel dog, Cooper is good there too. He is great on a leash and quiet in the truck. He just jumps in, lays down and enjoys the ride. He has had excellent manners at our veterinarian and other outtings we have taken him on (Wilco, Home Depot) is crate trained, food motivated and has that perfect energy that allows him to be ready to go at the drop of a hat but also just as happy to lay by your feet, on rainy days.

We are still working on housebreaking skills and doing fabulous with plenty of outside visits. He knows sit, leave it and kennel, enjoys meal and treat time, being motivated to learn by both and is just a super neat guy that would make a nice addition to just about any kind of living situation.

If you would like to meet this handsome dude, please go to our website at www.allmuttsgreatandsmall.org/adoption and submit the application. We would love to make introductions and get him started on his forever life with a person or family that will never treat him like old tires.

Cooper is neutered, microchipped, up to date on five way and rabies vaccination, flea/tick free and treated for intestinal bugs. He is ready to become your shot gun riding, ride or die best friend till the end, if you give him the chance.

Adoption fee is $350
