Spayed
Age: 4 - 5 years
Weight: 70lb
Training: house, collar, leash, crate and basic obedience
Maisie is a 4 - 5, year old Doberman. Maisie was hit by a car, which caused some long term issues because it was not initially taken care of, and lingered for months before she was rescued. Maisie went through several surgeries and has come out the other side. She walks day-to-day with her right hind leg hiked up, but that is mainly out of habit versus necessity. Further work with her leg is required, until she is comfortable using it more. When she's playing, running, or going up or down steps she will use it - simply put, do not think that it slows her down, because it doesn't.
Maisie is a big cuddler, sometimes not realizing that she is 70 lbs of muscle. So she will jump up next to you press into you and then collapse into your lap. She is very laid back and usually only barks when the doorbell is rang. She is very friendly and loves kids. She will pick one person and imprint on them, who becomes their safe space.
Maisie NEEDS to have a kennel. It's her safe space, where she retreats to anytime she's unsure, tired, or just doesn't want to be bothered.
Maisie is good with other dogs, although she can get very protective of her leg and if another dog jumps on it or crashes into it while playing, she will react. Her reaction sounds much worse than it is, but she does let the other dog know not to do that again. I'm unsure how she is with cats or smaller dogs. She is a good companion if you already have other dogs, but would really shine by herself. She does not need to be walked for a long period usually going to the bathroom within the first the first 5 minutes.
Maisie is not a fan of the rain or when it's very cold out. Sometimes she needs to be prodded to go to the bathroom in those situations. Maisie would do well with a fenced yard, as she likes to go outside and sit in the sun.
Maisie is highly food motivated, with a deep desire to please - which makes training new behavior much easier. She can be let off of her lead in parks and other places, but a collar with a beeping sound or vibration setting is helpful. She has had collar training in the past and immediately will respond with a heel command when she hears the beeps. The only time the vibration has been necessary is when she has become intently focused on something, like a squirrel or rabbit...she has a strong prey drive.
Maisie is a good girl and will make a good companion, especially for an older person or anyone who wants a loving dog with very little work needing to be done.
Maisie is current on core vaccinations, spayed and microchipped and started on monthly preventatives.
Adoption fee is $550+ tax (no checks)

Please inquire if this dog will be attending any of our upcoming Saturday adoption events from 11-2pm at the Burnsville, Cottage Grove, or Maplewood PetSmart locations.
Our fosters do the best they can to provide all information about the animal's background and temperament while in foster care in their home. An adopters routine and home environment is likely going to be different than that in their foster home.
Sometimes there is more that comes out about a dog's personality once they have been able to settle in a home and truly become comfortable. There are great articles out there written about the different stages a pet goes through after adoption, discussing transitions that happen at 3 days, 3 weeks, and 3 months. We highly recommend reading about this - it will help you understand the transition your new pet goes through.
