BIO: Spurgeon came from Tennessee when there was a life change in the household, and they could not care for him. He is a little reserved at first, but if he is with another dog who is socialized, he realizes it’s okay to be happy and friendly. Spurgeon gets along with male and female pups, but we are going to say "no" to cats. We think he would be fine with children, but they have to be at least 10 years old since he could knock a younger child down in his excitement. He does need to be with another dog; he can't be an only dog. Spurgeon has a great personality; he just needs a home where it can shine!

If you are looking for one handsome dude, he’s your guy!

Our must-haves for adorable Spurgeon include:
- A fenced yard
- Another young small dog for him to hang with and play with
- Someone who is home more often than not
- Sorry, no apartments, high-rises, or condos

If you are interested in Spurgeon, then drop us a line or, better yet, fill out that online adoption application to adopt him. He won’t be available long... he’s too handsome!

============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund’s back or get bitten.

If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed on the bio form. They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

We cannot adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have any issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page. Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

Click this link to apply: https://www.allamericandachshundrescue.org/apply, it will take you to the application form.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers who will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or Midwest. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. Please look for dogs on your coast.

The dachshund is a small dog breed known for its long body, short legs, and distinctive appearance. Originally bred for hunting badgers, these playful and loyal dogs make loving companions for families. Dachshunds come in three coat varieties smooth, wirehaired, and longhaired each with its own unique charm. Despite their size, dachshunds are bold and courageous, with a curious nature that can sometimes lead to mischief. Their endearing personality and adaptability make them popular pets worldwide.
