Meet Charlie: The Great Opportunist!
Charlie is a male Dachshund/Beagle/Corgi mix who was born on January 14, 2025 - making him not even two years old yet! And while he may technically be out of the puppy stage, Charlie still has plenty of puppy habits to work on.
His ideal adopter will be someone who has the time, patience, and consistency to help him master his basic training. Charlie is still working on potty training, leash training, and needs some help with his manners. He likes to walk directly in front of you, jump up for attention, beg for food, and generally keep you on your toes. Typical puppy stuff!
But underneath all those goofy puppy antics is an incredibly sweet boy. Charlie absolutely loves people and is happiest when he can be right by your side. He is a true little shadow, following you from room to room—so watch your step! Whether you're relaxing on the couch or settling into bed, Charlie wants nothing more than to snuggle up next to you. And nothing is cuter than watching him bring back a squeaky ball to you. His ears flapping and his big paws will absolutely melt your heart!
Charlie is playful, energetic, and full of personality! He loves zooming around and playing with another dog friend. He may put on a tough-guy performance when first meeting a new dog, but once he's inside and comfortable, that act quickly disappears and his playful side comes out. He also enjoys giving kisses to show his affection, although sometimes he gets a little carried away with the licking and needs a reminder to take a break. Charlie is reported to do well with children, although because of his energy and occasional clumsiness, we think a home without very young children or babies would be the best fit.
Charlie is loud and proud, and he isn't afraid to let you know how he feels. He doesn't bark constantly, but when he does, he has quite the set of lungs! Because of this, a home with shared walls—such as an apartment or condo—is not a good fit. Charlie is especially likely to bark when he sees something exciting outside, such as a person, delivery driver, or neighborhood cat. Fortunately, this one has a pretty simple solution: close the front door so he can't watch the neighborhood go by! He also tends to bark when separated from his humans. If he's put outside while his people stay inside, he'll bark because he wants to be where the action is. When left home alone in his kennel, he will likely bark for much of the time you're gone. He will also bark when people enter the home, but he generally settles down fairly quickly.
Charlie can be destructive when left alone unsupervised, so his future family will need to be prepared to safely manage this behavior. He is known to chew on chair legs, carpet, and pretty much anything else he can get his little teeth on when no one is looking. When his foster family needs to leave him home alone, Charlie requires a very sturdy, escape-proof kennel that will keep him safe and protect the surrounding floors. A Ruffland kennel or something similar would be ideal.
Charlie also cannot have blankets, mats, or kennel pads left with him because he will happily chew those up, too. He does enjoy appropriate chew items, and his foster family has found that a sturdy antler with frozen peanut butter inside can keep him occupied and relaxed for a little while. His adopters should also work with their veterinarian to determine whether any additional calming support would be appropriate.
Charlie is looking for a family who will love his goofy personality while also helping him grow into the best version of himself. He needs someone who understands that he's still a young dog with plenty to learn and who is willing to be patient and consistent with his training. In return, you're getting a sweet, silly, affectionate little shadow who will happily follow you around, snuggle beside you, and keep you laughing with his antics.
Charlie may be a great opportunist when it comes to finding things to chew, places to zoom, and people to follow—but he's also a great opportunity to give a young dog the guidance, patience, and love he's been waiting for!

The Colorado Department of Agriculture requires that all dogs entering PACFA-licensed facilities have a Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) issued by an accredited veterinarian within 30 days of entry. Dogs over three months of age must also have proof of a current rabies vaccination, including the vaccination date, manufacturer, and serial number listed on the CVI. Puppies must receive parvovirus and distemper vaccinations at least 14 days before entry.
