MEET Maggie -

This is Maggie, a gorgeous 3-year old, 22-pound, spayed, standard Dachshund. Maggie represents the absolute best in the breed, plus a few frustrating traits also associated with the breed.

Maggie has a mass on her right kidney which may compromise that kidney. However, her blood work is good, and there is no current evidence of renal impairment. This condition will need to be monitored but no specific treatment is currently recommended.

Maggie will quickly form an attachment to her owner and be your constant shadow. Her favorite place is in your lap or next to you in bed. She will follow you into the bathroom and wait while you shower. She assumes she can launch herself into your lap without notice. The fact that you may have a cup of coffee in your hand is completely irrelevant to her.

Maggie is high energy, very strong, willful, and lacks dog training 101. She currently believes come, stay, sit, and no. are optional commands. She pulls on her leash. She has a sweet personality, is not food aggressive, and loves to play fetch. But she has a very high prey drive, can become obsessed with toys and scents, and is highly reactive towards strangers. She will bark aggressively and be very menacing, but she has not bitten anyone, yet. She can also be distracted with a favorite toy or ball. This is a behavior we are working on, but it is definitely a work in progress. She is also a barker, which can be managed, but the owner needs to be home to do so.

Maggie would prefer an owner who is not absent from the home for long periods of time, as she has separation anxiety. She needs daily exercise to help manage her natural exuberance. She would love a male non-alpha canine companion to carouse with. There cannot be cats or small pets in the home. Absolutely no cats, she can be very aggressive to cats. No young children. Access to a backyard is strongly recommended. Maggie needs an owner who can continue her rehabilitation, including basic obedience training and reducing her reactive behavior towards strangers. If you can give Maggie a loving forever home please fill out an application today!

Like all Dachshunds, Maggie enjoys playing and warming their little bones in the sunshine, along with regular walks Maggie needs a secure fenced yard to run around and explore safely. While small in stature, doxies are big on personality and don't generally do well in apartments. Therefore we adopt to families who live in single family homes (or Duplexes) with secure fenced yards.

OUR CRITERIA:

Based on 30 years of experience with rescue doxies, we have found that the following criteria best sets up our doxies and their new families for success.

Do you work from home/stay at home/work part time? Have a securely fenced yard? We generally do not place same gender dogs in a home unless they were raised together. We prefer non-smokers and a home with no other small animals (ferrets, hamsters, etc). Cats are on a case by case basis depending on the dog. Remember, these are rescues; many were surrendered because of these issues.

All our dogs are vetted and vaccinated. If available, theyll come with a few goodies to get you started (food, toys and a harness). The adoption fee is $595, sorry no exceptions, as this covers the cost to rescue them, vet them and take care of them while in our rescue. It also helps towards the care of other doxies that come with huge vet/dental bills or need extensive behavioral training.

Can you give Maggie a happy, carefree forever home? If interested, please complete the adoption application at:

Oregon Dachshund Rescue https://www.odr-inc.org/adopt and email it to: jrangan@comcast.net

Our adoption coordinator will attempt to contact with you within 48-72 hours. Please be patient as we are solely volunteer run.
Thank you for supporting our rescue efforts!
