Mikey - Corgi Dog for Adoption in Lewisville, Texas

Mikey came into the shelter as a stray, and no one showed up to claim this cute guy. Initially he was hesitant to trust his foster family, but after a couple days of sweet talk, treats, and patience, he has become a very good boy. He has many attributes of the Corgi breed and also seems to have some similarity to a Chihuahua, so the best guess is he's a mix of both breeds. He is fun sized, at just 15 lbs, but he needs a nutritious diet and consistent exercise to keep him at a healthy weight.

Mikey has a joyful approach to everything, and his adorable tail literally never stops wagging. He has gotten along very well with the dogs in his foster home (ranging in size from 20 pounds to 100 pounds) and also seems to enjoy the company of cats, meeting the cat there with confidence and not a speck of aggression. He doesn't bark unless he is communicating something he needs, like dinner, potty time, or to let you know there is a delivery truck in your driveway.

Mikey is not a perfect dog, he needs more confidence and stability and a little time to get to know new people, but he tries hard to understand the rules and has already become more confident when meeting new people. He is working on housetraining skills, and he's been very easy to manage with his little velcro pants and making sure he gets outside in time to decorate the outdoors, not the indoors.

Mikey responds best to patient and kind training. To help grow his confidence, the fosters are careful to keep basic training time positive, quiet and kind. Mikey is a dog who responds perfectly to patience and kindness.

Mikey needs a home that is fairly calm and quiet. He should be fine with kids over the age of 10, as long as they understand it may take him a little time to adjust to his new home, and to show his playful, funny side.
