Franklin’s Story Has Some Hard Chapters. Help Him Write a Beautiful Ending.
Meet Franklin, a handsome chocolate Lab who is neutered and up to date on vaccines. At 1 year and 9 months old, this goofy boy is bursting with classic Lab energy, enthusiasm, and social charm. He loves people, kids, and other animals, and believes every new friend is a potential playmate. Franklin is currently seeking a foster or foster-to-adopt home where he can continue to grow and thrive and get the extra care he needs.
Franklin is also working through some challenges. He has been experiencing excessive thirst and difficulty with house-training. He also struggles with anxiety, tends to follow his people closely, and needs extra time and patience to settle.
The current treatment plans have not helped with these challenges so his veterinary team is working to find answers, and an internal medicine specialist may be the next step. While his long-term needs remain uncertain, one thing is certain: CILRA will stand by his family every step of the way and cover all medical expenses throughout his journey.
Franklin will need a dedicated, patient, and attentive person who is prepared for additional veterinary care, ongoing management, and the possibility that these challenges may take time to resolve or require long-term support.
He won’t be the right fit for every home, but we know there is someone special who is willing to help him navigate this next chapter.
Now for the fun stuff! Franklin is a social butterfly who loves people of all ages, including young children, and gets along with dogs and cats. He especially enjoys playing and roughhousing with other dogs, so an active canine companion could be a wonderful addition to his life. He shares toys without issue and has no food-guarding concerns. A fenced yard would be ideal for this energetic boy, giving him space to burn off his classic Lab energy. Franklin is crate trained and knows several commands, including “sit,” “paw,” “lay down,” “kennel,” “no,” and “touch”. His leash manners are improving, though he still pulls.
At home, Franklin needs structure, consistency, patience, and close supervision as he continues learning. Franklin may be a work in progress, but the right person will see the potential beneath the challenges. Perhaps you’re someone who finds joy in celebrating small victories, advocating for his needs, and offering the patient unconditional love that will help him become the happiest, healthiest version of himself.
Franklin isn’t currently available for adoption but he is in need of a Foster or Foster-to-adopt family while the next steps in his care are decided. We’re sharing his story in hopes that the right person might see beyond the challenges and recognize the potential in this sweet, energetic boy.

Adopting a Lab can be a wonderful experience. Your new dog will need lots of love, adequate exercise and attention. Keep in mind that dog ownership may include additional costs for training, grooming, and health care beyond annual vaccines and monthly preventatives. It’s a lifetime commitment!
