Phoebe - Chihuahua Dog for Adoption in Vancouver, Washington

Meet Phoebe

Hi there! My name is Phoebe, and I'm a four-year-old Chihuahua mix looking for my happily ever after.



Three years ago, I made the big move from Mexico to Washington. There was a lot to adjust to in my new home, and I was a little shy at first—especially around the man of the house and my new dog brother. But the lady and I became besties almost immediately. With time, I warmed up to the man and learned to coexist with my brother, too. Although, if I'm being honest, he still gets on my nerves sometimes.



Over the past three years, I've learned so much, and I've really come to love my life. I enjoy neighborhood walks and absolutely love nose work classes. But at heart, I'm a homebody. I like my routines, my cozy spaces, and, most importantly, cuddling with my mom.



My brother and I get along much of the time, but I think we've both realized that we might be happier living our best lives separately. He has a tendency to bark at passersby, which really gets under my skin, and I've tried to let him know how I feel about it. We've also had some disagreements over sharing Mom. Sometimes I have trouble keeping my cool and have gotten into scuffles with him, although I've never actually hurt him (no scratches or broken skin).



After our most recent family meeting, we decided that finding me a home where I can be someone's one-and-only dog would probably make everyone happiest. So here I am, putting myself out there in search of my BFF forever!



My perfect match is someone who shares my appreciation for the quieter things in life. I'm definitely a girls' girl, but I can warm up to a man when he's patient, gentle, and kind. I was raised in a small village, so a calm, peaceful home with a little yard to explore and not too much foot traffic would be right up my alley.



My ideal person is kind, quiet, patient, and loving. My first language is dog, so someone who understands canine body language would be amazing. Positive, force-free training is a must!



I also love a good routine. I'd do best with someone who works from home or has a schedule that allows them to be home much of the time. I'm perfectly capable of relaxing in my den or pen for a few hours, though—I'm independent, just not interested in being left alone all day.



I'm a great garden buddy, but I also enjoy regular walks to keep up my figure. I'm a homebody, not a recluse! I like getting out, sniffing around, hiking and having adventures with my person. Doing activities together is what is so special to me.



Kids, however, are a hard no. They're loud, sticky, unpredictable, and, frankly, they give me the ick. I'd much rather have a quiet adult home where I can relax and feel secure.



I'm also looking for a home with a small social circle. I don't need to be the life of the party, and a household with lots of visitors coming and going would probably be overwhelming for me. I'd much rather have my people, my routine, and a few trusted friends.



I've traveled a little with my family and have enjoyed camping trips in our RV. But when my people travel, if I can't go with them I'd rather stay home with a friend than spend time in a noisy kennel. Having someone come stay with me at home would be my dream.



And finally, I believe in higher education! I love learning and have really enjoyed my positive training classes—especially nose work. I'm pretty smart (not to brag), and I'd absolutely love a family who will continue giving my brain fun things to do. Continuing nose work, or another positive, mentally stimulating activity, would be the icing on the cake.



I'm spayed, microchipped, and up to date on all my vaccinations. When I started becoming a little short with my brother, my people did the responsible thing and took me to the vet to rule out any underlying medical issues. I've been thoroughly evaluated, and I currently take a couple of supportive medications to help keep me feeling my best.



My perfect placement will be willing and able to continue working closely with my veterinarian, monitoring my health and adjusting my care as needed. With the right support, I'm ready to keep living my happiest, healthiest life!
