Poor old Sam has had a bit of a reputation following him around, but the truth is he's an absolute doll.
Sam originally arrived at ACCT Philly after being surrendered along with four of his siblings. From there, he made his way to the sanctuary, and we've been getting to know the real Sam ever since.
When Sam first arrived, we were told he had a history of biting. Since coming to us, he has not bitten once. The reality is that Sam simply doesn't see very well, so he relies heavily on his nose to understand the world around him.
We are told Sam is 10 years old. The key to Sam is simple: let him smell your hand first and give him a gentle pet so he knows you're there before trying to pick him up or handle him. Once he knows who you are, he's perfectly content.
Sam gets along great with the other dogs here. Once in a while he might give a quick little snap in their direction, but it's harmless - usually just his way of saying, "Hey, I didn't see you there." It's simply part of navigating life with limited vision.
Underneath it all, Sam is a sweet, gentle little guy who just needs a little patience and understanding.
