Some dogs spend their lives being overlooked.

Makaveli is one of them.

When Paws Without Borders received the call about an elderly owner moving into assisted living, we thought we were helping two senior dogs.

Then we learned there were four.

And when our team arrived, we found Makaveli sitting among the only family he had ever known, waiting for someone to come back for him.

No one did.

At 11 years old and just 10 pounds, Makaveli should be spending his days snoozing in a sunny spot, enjoying treats, and being spoiled rotten.

Instead, he found himself losing everything familiar overnight.

The home he knew.

The person he loved.

The future he thought he had.

Yet through it all, Makaveli has remained a sweet little gentleman with a heart full of love.

When we first met him, his protruding ribs and hip bones told a story of hardship. We were told he could be protective of his food, but after seeing where he came from, it was easy to understand why.

When you’ve spent a lifetime worrying about where your next meal is coming from, food becomes precious.

Now that he’s safe, we’re learning that underneath it all is a lovable senior boy who simply wants what every dog deserves:

After everything he’s been through, we want his next chapter to be his best one yet.
