Special Needs/Concerns: She's a distemper survivor, but nothing special is needed for her at this time.
Meet Josie!
Some dogs wear their resilience on their sleeve. Josie wears hers in the cutest little happy dance you've ever seen.
This adorable Chihuahua/Pug mix is a distemper survivor, which means she has myoclonus- an involuntary neurological tic that makes her little body wiggle and bounce from time to time. It doesn't hurt her, it doesn't slow her down, and honestly? It just makes her even more charming. Along with her signature "dance," she also has the sweetest little wink in her right eye that's guaranteed to steal your heart.
Josie's story didn't start easy. She came to TAP from a hoarding situation, where she spent her early life surrounded by lots of dogs but not much else. This is where she became incredibly since, and TAP stepped in to get her the medical attention she needed to survive. At first she was understandably a little reserved, but over the past few months she's blossomed into one of the sweetest, easiest foster dogs around.
She is perfectly content doing her own thing, but she also loves being part of the family. She's potty trained, crate trained, walks beautifully on leash, and has no separation anxiety. She loves toys, snacks, adventures, and most of all... other dogs.
In fact, another friendly dog in the home is at the very top of Josie's wish list. Having grown up with canine companions, she absolutely thrives with them. They help her feel confident, give her someone to play with, and make her happiest. While she adores people too, she's still learning that humans don't greet each other quite like dogs do. Sometimes she gets so excited to see her favorite people that she'll jump up and try to play with her mouth. She's working with a trainer and making wonderful progress every day.
And can we talk about this girl's looks? Josie has the cutest little roly-poly body, short legs, and an expression that somehow manages to be equal parts adorable and mischievous. She's impossible not to smile at.
Josie has already overcome more than most dogs ever should. Now all she needs is a family who will see her little dance not as a flaw, but as a reminder of everything she's survived. She isn't looking for perfection- just a home where she'll be loved exactly as she is.
If you're ready to add a joyful, resilient, one-of-a-kind little lady to your family (and have a dog looking for a new best friend), Josie is ready to dance her way right into your heart.
