DESCRIPTION
Colita is a 4-year-old Chihuahua with a tender heart and a love for being close to her person. She is very timid and needs time to feel comfortable, but her foster is beginning to see her affectionate, playful side emerge.
Colita prefers to approach people on her own terms. Once you sit down and give her some space, she will gradually come over and may hop up beside you for a snuggle. She has grown especially close to her foster dad and loves sleeping tucked in near him.
She is also starting to play with the little dog in her foster home. A friendly, confident dog companion would likely help her settle in and learn the household routine. A quiet home with someone who is around often and willing to let her build trust at her own pace would suit her well.
Colita is still working on house training. She will potty outside when taken out with the other dogs, but she doesn't yet ask to go out and will need a consistent routine. She is accustomed to hearing Spanish, so familiar Spanish words may help as she gets to know her new family.
For someone who enjoys earning a shy dog's trust and celebrating small steps, Colita has sweet companionship to offer.
Her adoption fee is $250. Heart of America Humane Society adopts within the Kansas City metro area, and an in-person meet is required.
