Papu - Chihuahua and Mixed Breed Dog for Adoption in Newark, New Jersey

Papu is a 9-year-old, 19-pound Chihuahua mix who was surrendered to our shelter. Almost as soon as he arrived, Papu became sick, and further evaluation revealed a serious heart murmur. We also suspect he may be showing signs of heart disease, and he urgently needs cardiac follow-up.

Unfortunately, there is only so much we can do for Papu here. We are doing our best to keep him comfortable, but the shelter environment is stressful, and he isn't feeling well. We need to get this little guy out of here as soon as possible and into a safe place where his medical needs can be addressed.

When Papu is feeling okay, his sweet, happy personality starts to peek through. He's got quite the cute little personality, and we know there's so much more to him than what we're seeing in the shelter. He previously lived with other dogs, too!

Papu is a senior boy who needs someone willing to look beyond his age and see the little dog who deserves comfort, care, and a chance to feel good again. We know his medical needs are serious, and we're hoping someone out there can help him get the cardiac care he urgently needs.

Rescues, adopters, please don't overlook Papu. He needs a safe place to land, and he needs it now. If you can help Papu, please contact AHS Tinton Falls as soon as possible.

The Chihuahua is a small breed famous for its confidence, loyalty, and big personality, despite its tiny size. Originating from Mexico, these dogs are known for their large, expressive eyes and alert, curious nature. Chihuahuas make excellent companions, forming strong bonds with their owners and displaying a protective nature. They come in a variety of coat colors and patterns, with both long and short coats, making them a diverse and adorable addition to any family.

The mixed breed dogs, often referred to as mutts, are a diverse and unique group with a blend of different characteristics from various purebred dog breeds. These dogs come from a mixture of lineages, resulting in a wide range of sizes, coat types, and temperaments. While each mixed breed dog is distinct in its own right, they are known for their resilience, adaptability, and often have fewer health issues compared to purebred dogs due to their genetic diversity. Mixed breed dogs make wonderful companions for families looking for a loyal and one-of-a-kind pet.
