Their Foster Family Says: "She's only about 6 or 7 lbs, but somehow manages to have the biggest personality in the room. She's part Chihuahua, looks like a dingo, and moves like a baby deer — all legs, slightly uncoordinated, and constantly sliding around on our wooden floors. She walks like she's marching, or doggie paddling along, and most passerby's can't help but smile.
She's also incredibly sweet. She follows us from room to room, loves being close to people, and is always licking our older Chihuahua. She's been gentle with little kids too. Most of the time she just wants to be wherever we are, whether that's curled up next to us on the couch or tagging along around the apartment. She's a super silly, sweet and affectionate little dog with a lot of character, and anyone who welcomes her into their home will be very happy!"
Level of dog ownership experience required:
BEGINNER – “Beginner” doesn't necessarily mean easy as all dogs will require time, work, and patience, but we predict this dog will be low on the challenge scale because of their breed/age combo. Potentially a good fit for someone who has relevant dog care experience (fostering, dog sitting) and is looking to adopt their first pup.
Energy level:
MEDIUM – Needs a daily 60 minute walk or window of quick paced exercise (minimum) in addition to potty break strolls (10-30 min each). Also needs significant socializing opportunities outside the home and mental stimulation at home like tricks training practice, chew items, and puzzle toys. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they're understimulated.)
TOLERANCE TO CITY
City pup – one would never know Rose grew up on the west coast. She's super curious and loves the energy of the city. The constant sounds, smells, and stimulation are endlessly amusing.
POTTY TRAINING
Sort of -- On the way and learning! Rose took to pee pads right away and almost exclusively uses them when in the home, just sometimes misses. She's improving everyday!
COMFORT LEVEL WITH STRANGERS
Social butterfly – rose loves absolutely everyone, she is completely missing the shy gene. She often jumps into the arms of strangers and gives them the kisses they didn't even know they wanted. She is VERY friendly
BEHAVIOR WITH CHILDREN (always requires adult supervision)
Yes for most ages – confidant and playful with children. Doesn't seem to have any fear or intimidation with energetic kids who want to play. Joins in on the fun and wants to play too :) and often gives them tons of kisses
SOCIAL BEHAVIOR WITH OTHER DOGS
Mostly – Rose has been really great with our dog Silvie (chihuahua) and I believe Silvie's presence has been calming to her (in general but particularly when left alone). They've pretty much been together nonstop. Rose will often take interest in what she's doing and give her kisses. On her first day with us she also seemed great with dogs on the street. Working on not barking at dogs on the street.
RESPECTFUL BEHAVIOR WITH OTHER ANIMALS (cats, small pets, etc.)
Fine for a home with cats
MOUTHY BEHAVIOR
Just a tiny bit with belongings – Is respectful of hands, feet, etc. and really doesn't chew on things she's not supposed to, does occasionally try to chew on her collar. Chewed on her rubber bowl a couple times. She's pretty good in this category
SEPARATION ANXIETY
Adjusting – Might cry for a few minutes when we first leave the house but settles pretty quickly and has no problem being left alone otherwise. Does not make a mess or destroy anything. Settles in after a little bit. Note that she has mostly been with our dog Silvie when left alone
LEASH MANNERS
Getting the hang of it – Probably hasn't been on a leash much in their life but figuring it out. A mild puller but responds to correction. Zig zags quite a bit but easy to steer.
CUDDLE BUG LEVEL
High – massive cuddle bug. Likes lots of attention. Always wants to be snuggled up.
JUMPING ON PEOPLE TO SAY HELLO
Listens to correction – Rose is super excited to greet everyone and does occasionally jump on people, but she's pretty gentle. Also responds to correction.
CRATE TRAINING
Not at all – Don't even have one, I've puppy proofed and we free range. Does well with free range in the apartment.
Medical status:
Healthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines; heartworm tested if coming from Tennessee or Puerto Rico; spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intake
How did this dog end up with Social Tees?
Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee, Los Angeles, and Puerto Rico. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives.
PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee any breed mix, exact age, or full grown size (if the dog is under a year old). We do our best with very educated guesses.
This animal is not at the Social Tees office, all are in foster homes.
