Meet Dora!
We are officially accepting applications for Dora!
Dora is a one-year-old, 7.5-pound female Chihuahua mix. She was rescued from a hoarding situation. She was pulled from a home with 16 other dogs (including her pregnant sister who we also have within our rescue). Since joining us, we have worked closely on her socialization. She has transformed into a happy companion who loves snuggling her person.
Dora is smart, house-trained, and comfortable using a doggie door. She is crate-trained at night but prefers sleeping with her humans. While she can be guided indoors with a harness and leash, she has not yet transitioned to outdoor walks and will require a patient owner to help her adjust to the outside world. Coming from a hoarding situation she has adjusted amazingly but will still need time to continue to decompress and fully trust.
Dora will thrive in a calm, quiet, adult-only environment or a home with older, quiet teenagers. She is not a fit for homes with small children as quick movements still startle her. She would do best as an only dog or with one other smaller breed companion. Her foster home has a larger breed dog and she steers clear and chooses her smaller friends to hang out with. Since realizing people are nice, she has enjoyed the pets and love they can give and possesses a true Chihuahua temperament and can be jealous of other dogs when seeking lap time. We are looking for a patient adopter who understands the breed and is committed to her ongoing training. We know with the amazing progress she has made thus far, that the possibilities for her are endless. Having a rough start is only a small chapter in her life and she has the rest of her life to live to the fullest.
If you are interested in giving Dora her forever home, please submit an application at HeartOfGaltRescue.com.
