Meet Misha! (also known as Mishka and Misha Mouse)
Misha is a male long-haired chihuahua who is currently 10 years old and 7 pounds and looking for his forever family. Misha has a beautiful brindle coat. Misha was surrendered from a family with children and reportedly experienced rough handling by children. He would love to go to a child-free home.
Though Misha can be timid, he is loving and attentive to his foster parents. He follows them from room to room! His foster mom says he is an excellent loving companion and an expert snuggler. He seems to love all adults he meets. He loves to be petted and to sit on your lap. Misha will play and jump and spin when he is happy. When it comes to humans, he is timid and submissive and does not seem to have a preference for men vs women. He seems to get along fine with other dogs. He will stick up for himself with other small dogs by backing back but has never been the aggressor. He has not been cat tested.
Misha is afraid of feet when you lift your foot and is also afraid of straps such as a leash or purse strap- it may cause him to roll to his back and screech. He needs to be approached low with his leash. He is doing much better with it, but still has some fear if hes caught off guard. He has begun to trust his foster moms gentle foot pets on his side or back. He is fearful and sort of freezes if you are moving semi quickly in his direction. He can be a tripping hazard and needs a family that pays good attention to where he is, since he may often be following you/underfoot.
Misha is potty trained, leash trained, and crate trained. He loves taking short walks and does not pull on the leash. He is an excellent road trip companion. He also responds to several commands, including sit, down, get down, wait, and go lie down.
Misha will sleep in a fluffy bed on the floor in your bedroom but would absolutely prefer to sleep in your bed! He might sleep in his crate if you are consistent.
Misha does very well with his daily brushing and does well with baths. He allows gentle face washing around his eyes with a warm damp washcloth, as the borax eye wipes seem to exacerbate the tears.
The best kind of family for Misha is a gentle, quiet household without children. Children as occasional guests are fine with proper supervision and protection of Misha. His foster mom would like him to be treasured as a fine, fragile family member. A fence is not required and he does not require a person to be home with him 24/7. Above all, he needs kindness, patience and protective pet parents!
Misha is fully vetted and up to date on vaccinations. He has been neutered. He takes monthly heartworm prevention. Misha had a dental this year. He has chronic eye tearing with staining requiring daily warm water wash with washcloth. He has the beginnings of small dog tracheal disease which therefore requires no pulling or squeezing around his neck; use of harness is required.
