Nahla loves food, hikes, the outdoors, getting her butt scratched, and protecting the property by barking at deer, turkeys, and other four-legged animals. She loves her people family, friends, neighbors, etc. She is a silly girl who is either running around like crazy, sunbathing, or taking a nap.
She has the tendency to get the zoomies when shes excited/has a lot of energy, which is adorable, but can sometimes have a challenge controlling her body. She can be jumpy, licks faces, and gives love nips, but listens well when given the proper cues (knee up and hand in the face), and is guided by treats. She will scratch doors if she is locked up for an extended period of time or wants to eat dinner or breakfast. Nahla loves her crate and will put herself in there if she wants to feel safe.
Nahla struggles with other female dogs. She has never attacked another dog but will stand still and tall and show her teeth if they approach her. She has demonstrated that she plays well with other male dogs but hasnt interacted with many dogs over the past 4 years. She has been a farm dog for quite some time (no collar, minimal leash walks, no electric fence). Nahla is great with property lines. She can be let outside with no oversight and stays on the property. We used long lining when we moved to our property in 2019 and has understood her territory ever since.
Nahla has never done anything wrong and deserves a great home. Shes going to do best on a rural property where she has freedom to roam. She would likely struggle in a small home/urban setting.

Once your application has been received and reviewed, you will be contacted via email or phone by one of our volunteers. After your application is approved, the foster parent for the dog you have selected will contact you to answer any questions you may have and determine if that dog is a good match for your family.
If you have no particular dog in mind, we will be happy to keep your application on file and notify you if the right dog should come into rescue. Catahoula Rescue of New England is an all-volunteer group. Dogs in our program are fostered by volunteers. The foster homes care for our dogs as if they were their own. All dogs have received vaccinations appropriate to age and are spayed or neutered.

The adoption donation is $300 which includes Rabies, DHLPP, Bordetella, fecal test, heartworm test, is on preventative, microchip and Spay/Neuter depending on age at time of adoption. If the dog is too young for a spay/neuter, then they will be adopted with a spay/neuter contract and $100 deposit. We do not have a physical shelter; all our dogs are fostered in individual foster homes across the New England and Canada.
