Calico is a Catahoula Beagle with a tiny bit of Pit showing in ears and jawline.. not much tho.. mixed spayed female in need of a new home. Just a puppy really and super kind loving and sweet. (is going to make a great pet for the right home) She was born Aug 15, 2025. She is up to date on all vaccinations. She is being fed twice a day. She rides great in a vehicle and can ride loose and free without bothering a driver. She lies down and relaxes. She just loves the car riding, and does well with long journeys. With other dogs in the car she felt a bit competitive and in need of shared attention. She is a puppy but she does exceedingly well when alone and there is no distraction or competition. She is totally housebroken, no accidents. She is a typical Catahoula leash puller but we can work on that through JCLR help. This can be overcome. No to cats as she shows some hunting prey drive like many Catahoulas. She is good children, she lives with a 2 and 4 year old. Every person she has been around, every age she has been good with them to date. She alerts to newcomers but super friendly once she sounds out that someone new has come to the house. This is just in her own house. On the beach outings or visiting other homes she is quiet. She is super laid back and friendly even on long line to other dogs and strangers when she goes to the beach. She goes into the water when at the beach, without any hesitation, but she is not into swimming. She is just following her human in to a depth that is up to her neck. She is perfect at the veterinarian. She is very social and tolerates every thing done to her, without any fear or trembling.. nail trims and anything they do she considers it a social outing in her honor. In a yard unsupervised she does not dig or try to get out. She basically gets her toys and plays but she still prefers to have some of her family near her. And would rather be in the house or wherever they are. This is very typical of all the breeds we see mixed into her. This is one nice dog. She is not a vocal dog, her expressions are in love and adoration quietly. If she has to go out for a potty break she lies by the door quietly and waits. That is her way of alerting to her needs. Toys: She likes squeaky and hard toys she can bite, rope and tug play, loves playing fetch with balls. She needs to be supervised with toys as she has ingested some of the pieces and that is very dangerous.. so only supervised and taken away when she starts tearing them up. All toys should be put high and given supervised. She is a chewer so the hard rubber toys she chews on those. She is crate broke and does not destroy things in the house. She sleeps in her crate, open wire is what she is used to. Her crate and toys go with her to a new home. The Pet bed in her crate she does not destroy. She does get along with small and large dogs if they are not confrontational with her. She does play Catahoula rough at times with some dogs on a one on one basis depending on their approach with her. This is not unusual. We don’t like everyone we meet and greet at first either in our human world. She is a quiet sweet dog, she loves exercise and she needs it and is not getting enough. She she very smart and willing to be taught and learn new things. And she is sharp about reading body language, both in dogs and humans.
HISTORY: She was tied to a fence and belonged to the neighbors, and they went off and left her abandoned that way. The neighbors who have the children and a female bulldog took her in. The female bulldog that did like her when she was little, until she went into her first heat took, now has decided that she does not like her. Remember she was four months old when they first met and got along. As maturity began, Calico started to get rough or competitive in play and that is typical of the Catahoulas which set the female bulldog up to be confrontational and bit defensive. So jealousy and competitive play does come into her being naturally due to the working Catahoula breed in her and that is why they are needing to rehome her. She is not extreme in any area but it does cause friction with the resident dog. Two females that are competitive have to be kept separate. Remember these people took here in as Good Samaritans and have given her a good jump start. It is time for her to move on to better situations for all concerned.
GOOD: She gives hugzzz like many of our leaning Catahoulas do. She is a cuddle dog big time. She is a very special dog and very playful and excited to see you but is very calm beside her people and feels very satisfied with being near her family. That is her favorite of all spots.
BAD: She shows a tad of jealousy regarding other dogs, but only if it is with her owner or her special person who is giving attention to the others, but she is easy to settle down by including her in the attention giving and sharing. Supervising reassuring and re directing.
UGLY: Very strong and focused when on leash and her nose gets the better of her. But if she had ample exercise and mental stimulation it would be likely to balance out. This family has children and jobs and another dog and in taking her in, it overloads them right now, so she is not getting the needs of a young dog to have her energy expended. No one’s fault. She needs a new home.
