Meet Dahlia Mae
Dahlia Mae may be small, but her story—and her spirit—are nothing short of incredible.
A Good Samaritan was on his way to search & rescue training in Alabama when a tiny, lone puppy came walking out of the woods toward him. That brave little puppy was Dahlia. Curious and gentle, she led him back into the woods where he discovered a heartbreaking sight—a cardboard box containing six more puppies, abandoned and alone.
Because of Dahlia Mae, her entire litter was found and saved.
Local authorities were contacted, and the situation was traced back to an elderly man who was unable to care for the puppies, with the mother nowhere to be found. With the only immediate option being an already full rural shelter, this kind-hearted rescuer stepped in without hesitation. He brought the puppies to his training site, where he and fellow search & rescue members created a safe, makeshift space for them. After training, he took all the puppies home to Tennessee where he and his wife started caring for them and paying for veterinary care themselves to ensure they received their first vaccines and deworming.
Thanks to their compassion, these puppies got the second chance they deserved.
Two of Dahlia’s siblings have already found wonderful homes with members of the search and rescue group, and now Dahlia Mae and her sisters are ready to find their own forever families through RARE.
Dahlia Mae is the most shy and laid-back of the group, but don’t let that fool you—she is also incredibly brave. It was her quiet courage that saved them all. She is sweet, gentle, and blossoming more each day as she learns the world is a safe and loving place. She enjoys the company of her sisters, is already picking up on house training, and is truly one of the most special puppies we’ve ever met.
Dahlia Mae is looking for a patient, loving home where she can continue to build confidence and be cherished for the hero she is. A home that understands her gentle nature and will give her the time and love she needs to fully shine.
We are endlessly grateful that Dahlia walked out of the woods that day—and that one compassionate person chose to stop.
Now it’s our turn to make sure she gets the happy ending she deserves

We understand that it is important to you to find the right fit for your family. We feel the same way! The DOG ADOPTION INTEREST FORM is important and REQUIRED for this reason.
All of our Adoptables are:
Spayed/neutered; Up to date on vaccines; Heartworm tested if six months or older (& kept on heartworm preventative and treated for heartworms if positive when entering our program): Microchipped prior to adoption
BREEDS: We are not breed experts. The breed(s) listed for each adoptable are best guesses or suggestions.
PLEASE NOTE: We are a non-profit organization without municipal or government funding. Veterinary/Medical expenses are constant for an animal rescue. Our adoption fees not only help to provide vetting and care for the animal being adopted, but they also help to cover heartworm treatments and other treatable ailments that many animals, that would otherwise be euthanized, need in order to be made available for adoption.
Please understand that adopting an animal is a LIFETIME COMMITMENT to that animal and there will be veterinary expenses throughout their life that can often cost several hundreds, if not thousands of dollars (without pet insurance), especially without annual checkups and preventative care. As a potential family for this pet you are responsible for their safety and that includes keeping them on your property.
***If you are not in the middle Tennessee area, transport can potentially be arranged to approved homes, depending on distance and local adaptability. We normally do not allow adoptions outside of 1.5 hours driving distance.
