Hi, I'm Moose!
10 months old | Cane Corso | 77 lbs
I'm the biggest of the siblings who came to the shelter, but don't let my size fool you. I'm basically one giant, wiggly, clumsy puppy who hasn't quite figured out where all of my body parts are yet.
My siblings and I came to the shelter after our owner could no longer care for us. We grew up together with several other dogs and our parents, but our experience with the world outside of our home was pretty limited.
Out of the group, I'm a pretty happy go lucky guy once I'm comfortable! I'm wiggly, goofy, affectionate, and happiest when I'm hanging out near the people I know and trust. I may be a giant baby now, but I'm still learning about the world and will need someone committed to helping me grow into a confident, well mannered adult.
A LITTLE ABOUT ME:
Biggest of the siblings and still growing Giant, wiggly, clumsy goofball Happy go lucky and affectionate once comfortable Loves being near the people he trusts Very dog friendly and grew up around several other dogs Expected to do well with respectful children Haven't been tested with cats yet, but proper introductions will be important
I'M STILL LEARNING HOW TO "DOG"
Before coming to the shelter, I had never been walked on a leash and was only let outside into a fenced yard. That means a lot of things other dogs consider completely normal are brand new to me!
I'll need patience and guidance with:
Walking on a leash
Potty training
Basic manners and training
Experiencing new people, places, sounds, surfaces, and situations
Continuing to build my confidence
Socialization will be extremely important for me, but that doesn't mean throwing me into as many new situations as possible and hoping I get used to them.
I need someone who understands how to introduce new experiences positively, recognize when I'm becoming overwhelmed, work at a pace I can handle, and help me learn that new doesn't have to mean scary.
NOW FOR THE REALLY IMPORTANT PART...
Right now, I may look like one enormous, clumsy puppy who just wants to wiggle his way into your lap. But I'm only 10 months old, and I'm still growing physically AND mentally.
Cane Corsos are large, powerful working and guardian dogs bred to protect their families and property. As they mature, they can become strong willed, naturally protective and territorial adults and are NOT recommended for first time or inexperienced dog owners.
Proper training, structure, continued socialization, boundaries, and confident, responsible handling are essential throughout their lives.
And considering I'm already the biggest of my siblings, teaching me good manners BEFORE I become an even bigger adult is going to be pretty important.
EXPERIENCE + TRAINING MATTER
Because of my breed AND limited socialization so far, experience with Cane Corsos or other large, powerful breeds with strong working or guardian instincts is STRONGLY preferred.
Rottweilers, Presa Canarios, Dogo Argentinos, Mastiffs, Dobermans, German Shepherds, Belgian Malinois, etc.
No experience? That doesn't mean you can't be my person! However, applicants without similar breed experience should be committed to working with a qualified professional trainer if/when needed.
This is HIGHLY recommended to help properly continue my socialization, build confidence, establish healthy boundaries, and make sure this giant goofy puppy grows into a stable, well mannered adult.
I'm looking for someone who loves the ridiculously wiggly, clumsy goofball I am today AND understands the very large, powerful adult dog I'm still growing into.
Give me the training, structure, socialization, patience, and guidance I need, and I have SO much potential to become one incredible companion.
Neutered, microchipped, Heartworm & Lyme Negative, current on vaccines and on monthly prevention.
