Meet Sheik — a Gentle, People-Loving Senior

Sheik is an 11-year-old, 45-pound spayed Canaan mix looking for a loving home where she can enjoy her senior years. She is a beautiful, people-oriented dog with striking blue eyes and has been wonderful with children of all ages.

Sheik is fully house-trained and has excellent bathroom habits. She is accustomed to going outside, taking care of business, and returning inside. Because every new environment is different, she should initially be kept leashed or in a securely fenced area. She can stay in a crate when necessary, although crating has not been part of her regular routine.

Sheik has no bite or aggression history and has always done well with people. She has limited experience living with other animals and does not interact well with smaller animals, so she is seeking a home where she can be the only pet. A home without cats or other small animals is recommended.

Sheik has no known major medical conditions and takes no medication. She may have some age-related stiffness or arthritis, but this has not been formally diagnosed. Her vaccinations were last updated approximately two years ago.

This difficult decision is due to her family moving in December—not because of Sheik’s behavior. Her family is beginning the search early so that she can be carefully matched with a safe, stable, and loving home.

Sheik would be a wonderful companion for a person or family seeking an affectionate, house-trained senior dog who enjoys being part of the family. A veterinary reference, landlord approval when applicable, and a meet-and-greet will be requested.

Sheik is very loved by her current family, and they will be keeping her in her home as long as possible while trying to find her next family. We would love to find her new people before December when she will have to move into a foster home to continue her search.
