Buster came from a disturbing situation in Sumner, Iowa and had to be removed from the home after his doggy friend was euthanized due to injury. Buster is now a Waverly Pet Rescue dog and is living in a foster home. Buster is now up to date on shots, neutered, heartworm negative, dental done with teeth cleaned and pulled. The doctor did also find a slight heart murmur that should be checked in 3 months. and in 6 months.

Buster is 9-years-old as of May 2026. He is a Cairn Terrier mix and is the best boy! Due to his previous home he's quite anxious and can be clingy. He took to my husband right away and likes to lay/sit with his people. He's doing well on an anti-anxiety medication from our vet. With lots of patience, love and cuddles he's really come out of his shell and is a GREAT dog. He lets you know when he has to potty, eats well with other dogs, and is not at all aggressive with dogs or people. Leash walking is a work in progress. He tends to wrap the leash around you and wants to be right at your feet but is getting much better. He prefers to sleep in bed with his humans but will sleep in his dog bed when directed. Buster LOVES to play! Trips to the dog park or a safe open area he can run in are highly recommended as well as available toys. He does fantastic with other dogs, though when human food is involved can get slightly food aggressive. He is not used to being kenneled but will go in for a timeout without complaint. A larger kennel would be better for him. He also doesn't mind cats and mostly ignores them. Buster's skin was very dry when we got him, but a weekly bath has helped, which he also doesn't mind. He'll make a great addition to any household!

To see an animal, you must fill out an application first and then once approved, we can set up for you to meet the animal you are interested in. We do background checks on all applicants. All animals see a vet for shots and normal exams. If they appear healthy and there are no obvious health concerns, then extensive testing is not done. This is normal procedure for pet rescues and shelters.
Waverly Pet Rescue puts a lot of money into medical care for each dog and cat we take in. $450 is the average cost for basic care. This does not include if the animal had an injury, required extra flea / ear mite treatments, or needed extra days at the vet office.
