From his loving foster mom:
Meet Hugo: Part-Time Comedian, Full-Time Soul Dog
Many of you have been lucky enough to have that one dog in your life. The one who just gets you. The one who makes you laugh, makes ordinary days better, and somehow manages to take up a very special piece of your heart.
Well, folks... Hugo is that dog for me.
Hugo is a 65-pound, approximately 4-year-old bundle of heart, humor, and long-legged charm. He's our favorite Bulldobie, and if my work schedule didn't have me away 15 days a month or more, we'd be keeping this incredible guy ourselves. No question.
But here's the good news: Hugo can stay with us for as long as it takes to find his person. We're not in a rush. He deserves the right home, not just any home.
So, who exactly is this guy?
Hugo is cool, calm, collected, and pretty much the guy who has his life together. Honestly, he's doing better than most of us.
He's got wonderful house manners, sleeps happily in his crate (although it's not a requirement), and has no separation anxiety or resource guarding. He doesn't need to be the center of attention every second, and he knows how to settle in and just be.
When people come into the house, he greets them politely and calmly. No jumping, no frantic excitement, no throwing a welcome party that requires crowd control. Just a nice, appropriate hello from a very good boy.
In our house, the couch and bed are off-limits to dogs, and Hugo respects the rules like the gentleman he is. (Although I'm sure he'd be happy to hear your household has different policies.)
Now, take him outside, and his nose clocks in for work. We live on six acres, which means there are plenty of fascinating smells to investigate. Deer, rabbits, squirrels... Hugo would very much like to discuss a career in wildlife pursuit. We, however, have other plans. He's manageable when he spots critters, but his new family should know that his interest in local wildlife is VERY real.
Introducing the Bulldobie!
Hugo came into the shelter as a stray, so his early story is a bit of a mystery. We did a DNA test, though, and discovered he's 50% Bull Terrier and 50% Doberman.
Naturally, we affectionately call him our favorite Bulldobie.
Basically, somebody combined two wonderful breeds and came up with one very special, 65-pound, big-hearted goofball.
What does Hugo's dream home look like?
Right now, Hugo is living on six acres with another female foster dog, and he's thriving. He enjoys exploring, getting his daily walks, and sharing his world with a canine companion.
His ideal home would include:
A female dog friend (or two!) — He's currently doing beautifully with a female foster dog, and we'd love to find him a home with another compatible female dog or dogs.
Someone who enjoys walking. We're talking actual walks, with time to stretch those long legs, sniff all the things, and explore the world together. If you consider a good walk one of life's simple pleasures, you and Hugo might just be a match.
Someone who appreciates a dog with personality. Hugo has a sense of humor, a lovely calm presence, and a way of making everyday life feel a little more special. He doesn't need a circus. He just wants to be part of your world.
Someone looking for their soul dog. This is the big one. Hugo isn't just a dog to have around the house. He's the kind of dog who becomes part of your heart, your routine, your adventures, and your story.
As with any adoption, we'd want to make sure resident dogs are a good match and that everyone gets a proper introduction.
And what will Hugo give you in return?
A soul dog.
A walking buddy. A partner in exploring. A handsome, 65-pound Bulldobie who will make you laugh, keep you company, and quietly work his way into every corner of your heart.
The kind of dog who doesn't need to make a big production of loving you. He'll just show up, day after day, and make your life better by being in it.
I'm a foster, and I know my job is to help dogs find their forever homes. But every once in a while, one comes along who makes that job a little harder on the heart.
Hugo is that dog for me.
So, if you're looking for a canine soulmate, enjoy long walks, have a compatible female dog who could use a buddy, and have room in your life for one very special Bulldobie...
Could you be Hugo's person? ????
Please share to help this wonderful boy find the home he deserves!
