Dog Story
6-year-old Sissy arrived in her foster home at the end of February. She weighed 89 pounds and could barely walk. She drank toilets dry, and she was so “starved” she ate just about anything. It turns out these were all signs of Cushings disease, an adrenal disease that can require meds to manage. Sissy’s foster family had to take a crash course in Cushings... it’s not an easy one and it’s been a learning curve. Sissy has lost a whopping 29 pounds, and now not only can she walk but she can outrun foster mom! She currently has free roam of 12 acres with a lake, so getting her steps in isn’t a problem. We’ve learned that she loves fish, rabbits, groundhogs... she sits and waits for action like The Thinker. she loves to go fishing!) She also loves tomatoes and cucumbers, great for her new trim figure. She enjoys car rides, too, but has still needs some help getting in. Sissy is a fun, goofy dog. As she’s moving around better, her true Britt colors are shining. She’s learning sit and wait at the door before she can go outside. Sissy had been the easiest foster. She never messes with things she’s not supposed to– except Kleenex. Her kennel is her safe place for her and she’s had no accidents in the house. Come and meet the Sis.. Sissy requires a low fat and low carbohydrate dog food (Zignature) and has monthly meds. She needs a fence so she can safely roam. She’s overwhelmed by busy younger dogs, has not been around kids.
