5/7/26-Mildred has made some progress with my cat and they are now able to be in the same room together without issue. I feel like she really just wants to play, but my cat is not about that. I think with a dog savvy cat she will be okay, just takes some time to adjust.
We’re still having crate issues, she broke out again when I left the other day. Because of this, she has continued to sleep in bed with me. She settles down quick and sleeps mostly through the night until the cats or my kids wake her up in the morning. She absolutely adores my kids and waits outside for the bus with them every morning. Shes extremely gentle and calm with them.

5/5/26-Yesterday was an interesting day for Mildred. One of my cats finally came out and Mildred did not chase her at all. She did get a little close, so my cat hissed at her and she immediately backed off. After that, she seemed to be scared of the cat. She would just sit there and stare intently while shaking pretty badly. Additionally, when I left the house for a bit last night, the top latch on the crate was not closed all the way, so she somehow was able to wiggle her way out of the crate. I came home to her on the couch. No accidents or destruction in my house, so that’s a plus at least. Then, after her escape, she did not want to be in the crate overnight at all. I had to cave and let her out to come sleep in bed with me. She slept great once in the bed and didn’t budge until this morning. This was the first night crate sleeping did not go well. I’m going to try again tonight to see if its any better.
On a good note from yesterday, she went to the back door and asked to go outside to potty for the first time! She really is an amazing girl and is going so great.

5/2/26-Beautiful Mildred is going great since her spay! She’s been with us two weeks and I have not heard her bark at all yet. She’s a pretty relaxed dog with small bursts of energy throughout the day. She’ll be a happy couch potato, or follow you around outside. Mildred has been such a joy and is ready to bring that joy to her forever home.

4/29/26-Mildred was spayed today and did great, minus not wanting to walk when I went to pick her up. I got to carry her 60lb self to the car and then into my house, my kids thought it was hilarious. She did throw up a sock while she was there. I didn’t close my bedroom door tight yesterday and she pawed the door open. I caught her getting into my clean laundry when I noticed, but didn’t see that she actually ate anything. We’ll be sure all doors are closed and latched from now on.
Shes doing so great on the leash now and didnt even flinch on our last walk when two dogs barked at her. She stopped briefly, but immediately started to walk again with a “walk” command. She also listened when she got excited to see a stray cat and I told her “leave it.” She seems to adjust to basic commands pretty easily. My own cats still have not had a real meeting with her. They came out one day, but she immediately chased them so they went back to their safe space in my basement. Probably be best without cats in her new home. Mildred will be an amazing addition to any family, she is such a good girl!

4/25/26-Yesterday, Mildred went onto the couch on her own for the first time, which is the video I posted. Today, she’s a couch potato. Lol

4/24/26-Mildred is doing great! We are still dealing with some accidents in the house, but for the most part she is going outside as long as we keep up with a good potty schedule. She’ll be house broken in no time though if we keep it up! We are still doing pretty well with the crate. At bedtime she has started whining a little when she is first put to bed, but once she settles she sleeps all night. It still takes a lot of encouragement to get her in, but hopefully with consistency it will start getting a little easier for her. We go for a walk every day, which Mildred seems to love. Shes a slow walker and stops frequently, but she doesn’t pull at all. If she gets barked at by other dogs she does stop in her tracks and is a little frightened, but with positive encouragement we get going again and past the obstacle. She has not tried to pull me towards any dogs we have seen. Shes such an amazing girl! Also fish oil with omega 3 was started yesterday to help her poor coat. We had her pre-spay appointment today, which did confirm a level 2 heart murmur, but the vet wasn’t overly concerned. Just said it is something for her new owner to keep an eye on. Her spay is scheduled for 4/29, then she’ll be ready to find her forever home!
4/20/26-Our beautiful Mildred is experiencing some dry skin. We think now that she’s on a better food than likely what commercial breeder had her on & maybe some moisturizer shampoo or oil supplements will help with this.4/19/26-Model alert! After a couple of days here is what we know about Mildred. She loves being pet, especially around her face. She is obsessed with my 5 year old kids and will follow them all over the house. We went for our first walk and overall she did really great! She only pulled once when my son yelled, “squirrel!” and started chasing it. She loves toys, even ones that don’t belong to her, so we have to make sure all of the kids toys are picked up so she doesn’t get into them. Mildred is a little mischievous right now pulling blankets off the couch and potholders of the kitchen counter. She gets a little close while we are eating at the dining room table, but eventually lays down after some redirection. We have had a couple of accidents in the house, but have also been successful going outside as well. She did not like being out in the rain, which is why I believe last night’s accidents happened. Mildred will go into her crate to sleep on her own when she’s tired, but takes a lot of coaxing if I’m getting her in when I leave or for bed. Once in, she relaxes right away and sleeps all night. My cats still haven’t come out to meet her, but hopefully we can do an introduction soon to see how she does. Overall she is such a happy girl who is adjusting well and will be a great addition to any family!

4/17/26-Freedom Friday for Ms Mildred! Our newest foster girl, Mildred, joined us this evening. She just arrived and is sniffing all over my house, yard and kids. Such a sweetie pie so far! The kids and I are already so in love with her. More to come as we get to know her.

04/17/26-Mildred is a gorgeous 5 year old female boxer that came in today from a commercial breeder as they just didn’t need her anymore. She arrived safely into rescue tonight thanks to his transport volunteers. Her initial vet check as she came into rescue noted she may have a low grade 2 heart murmur (often there is no murmur & just stress of coming in from breeder, anxious & noise etc). We will get a 2nd check on her heart at our other vet during her pre-spay appointment. She has her pre-spay checkup on Friday 4/24 & we will get a spay date after that. Once she is spayed & we grt to know her a little more she will be ready for her new home.
