FROSTY
Border Collie, Mixed Breed
🇺🇸
Springfield, Massachusetts
June 26th
male, medium, young
DESCRIPTION
OTHER PETS: Frosty greets other dogs politely and then continues to do his own thing even if the other dog starts barking at him. Frosty would do well as an only pet, but he may also likely do well with other relaxed dogs; he should meet any dog he would be living with prior to adoption. [Case by Case (Must Meet First)] OWNER EXPERIENCE: [First Dog] Experience with positive reinforcement or willingness to learn. VETERINARY CARE: [Routine] KIDS: Frosty was shut down when he arrived and although he has started feeling more comfortable with staff, he is still easily startled by loud noises and is visibly uncomfortable walking through the kennel area when it is loud. Frosty's home should be a place where he has the ability to hide in a safe space when he needs a break. He enjoys attention when he seeks an interaction (sniffing is not a request for attention, sniffing is data gathering), but he can be a little head shy and prefers to take things slowly. [18+ (Must Meet First)] ACTIVITY LEVEL: Frosty was initially shut down and took time to begin warming up to staff, he is currently enjoying the ability to solicit attention from humans and relax as he choses but as he decompresses in his new home he will likely be more enthusiastic over time. Frosty is very scent driven, enjoys exploring with his nose wherever he goes, and is working on loose leash walking skills. Regular exercise combined with mental enrichment such as food puzzles, scatter feeding, scent games, and playtime will help meet his needs. [Good Walking Buddy / Olympic Athlete] LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement training will help Frosty bond with his new owner while building confidence and learning new skills and fun tricks. [Moderate] GROOMING: Regular brushing will keep Frosty's coat clean and matt-free; should his coat become matted a professional groomer would be able to help get Frosty comfortable again. [Routine Brushing]
ABOUT: BORDER COLLIE DOG BREED
The Border Collie is a highly intelligent and energetic dog breed known for their herding capabilities and exceptional obedience. Originating from the border regions of Scotland and England, these agile and versatile dogs are famous for their focus, stamina, and trainability. With their striking black and white coat and intense gaze, Border Collies excel in various canine sports and activities, making them ideal companions for active families and individuals seeking a loyal and dynamic pet.
The mixed breed dogs, often referred to as mutts, are a diverse and unique group with a blend of different characteristics from various purebred dog breeds. These dogs come from a mixture of lineages, resulting in a wide range of sizes, coat types, and temperaments. While each mixed breed dog is distinct in its own right, they are known for their resilience, adaptability, and often have fewer health issues compared to purebred dogs due to their genetic diversity. Mixed breed dogs make wonderful companions for families looking for a loyal and one-of-a-kind pet.
