Nothing more, nothing less to say about him!! He beat the odds and survived distemper, a devastating virus that has made a resurgence at our city shelter and in our surrounding community.

Distemper is a highly preventable virus with core vaccines, but puppies that are not vaccinated are simply sitting ducks in shelter environments. The number one reason Split is still alive is due to the tenacious, compassionate, and committed care his foster mom provided throughout his illness. Although it’s difficult to appreciate now – just a few months ago, Split couldn’t stand or walk. His immune system had been attacked by the distemper virus, and he was a very sick puppy. His foster mom saw his spark and asked SNIPSA if she could give it her best try.

She concocted up daily soups, broths, nutritiously rich meals chalked full of vitamins. She made sure he was kept clean, utilized exercise balls, and daily physical therapy. She never gave up, and eventually her persistence won. Split beat the odds, and SNIPSA gained a new vision of what distemper recovery could look like.

Split can now run, walk, and play like any normal dog. He has beaten the odds. He is silly, curious, smart, and immensely affectionate. He loves other dogs. He loves people, and he’s just a walking little success story!
