Pepe was adopted from the Shelter about 15 months ago.

Now that his owner is no longer able to care for him, he has returned.

Pepe and Mae (A061038) have lived together for about 15 months.

While they enjoy each other’s company, they could also live in separate locations.

Some dog breeds naturally have a high prey drive; we don't believe that precludes them from being great pets for the right adoptive homes.

For Pepe, that would include a home without cats or livestock to tempt him to chase. Good fencing and space to run and play will be ideal. An owner who wants to take advantage of Pepe's patience and intelligence to train him up smartly will be even better. He gets along with all other dogs very well, so a dog sibling or two would be most excellent.

Pepe is a lover of the outdoors, always preferring to be outside when he can. That may have contributed to his initial stress in the chaotic, confined shelter environment. Can't say we blame the guy!

When off leash in the play area, he comes up to us and gives kisses and then dances away playfully. He loves to play ball. On leash, he is a very good boy, indeed, no pulling or bad manners there. He is calm and accepts lots of pets and scritches when he is on leash. He sits sweetly for treats, which he takes with a gentle mouth. He passed his food test perfectly; no resource-guarding at all. We'd guess once he has had time to bond with a new family, he will settle in nicely with his people.

In keeping with his outdoorsy nature, Pepe seems to prefer pottying outside, so he may have some training or at least be easy to potty train, though of course we can't make guarantees.

As always, a meet-and-greet is required if you have other dogs at home.
