DESCRIPTION

KELLY IS LOCATED IN FORT MILL, SC (Greater Charlotte, NC metro area)

Kelly has been living with her foster family for a few months and is now ready to begin looking for her forever home! She will be a wonderful companion and friend! Kelly is very gentle and loves to snuggle, be by your side, take long walks & hikes in the woods, run and play in wide open spaces and go wherever her people go! Kelly is very calm in the house and doesn’t get into any trouble, and is crate trained if needed while you are out. She takes treats gently, knows a few commands, goes to the door when wanting out, and will “Go Potty’ on command. Kelly walks well on a leash most of the time except if frightened or spots a squirrel, bunny, or other small animal. Unsure how she is with cats or kids since we have not seen her around them. As with many herding breeds, children in the home should be older (12 and up), well supervised, responsible and knowledgeable of herding breed dogs.

While in foster, Kelly has been fully vetted, spayed, microchipped, updated on vaccines and is current with Heartworm, Flea & Tick preventatives. She is Heartworm negative, but tested positive for tick borne infection(s) and has completed a full course of antibiotics. Going forward, adopters need to inform their vet and may need more detailed bloodwork with annual heartworm testing if their vet recommends it.

Kelly has made so much progress since CBCR volunteers worked together to free her from a full shelter on a holiday weekend, where she was an unclaimed stray. She is learning how to become a special girl in a safe, loving home. She has been on some outings for hiking, neighborhood walks and a trip to Pet Smart and has done well. She has been getting more used to car rides now that they end with fun hiking trips instead of visits to the vet! Although she is still a bit nervous and shy around new people and places, she has been willing to meet new people and explore new places. She is worried about some strange dogs, but we feel she will improve as time goes on and with more outings, exposure and slow introductions. She has done well with her foster dog siblings after taking things slowly with introductions, group walks, and outings. They play well together and have lots of fun! She is a puppy at heart and still learning dog manners. Kelly will need further training and confidence building with patient, positive training methods (no shock or prong collars). She needs a home with people that have time, experience, knowledge, and understanding of shy dogs that are beginning their new lives. Kelly will do best in a quieter home where people are home a lot and can spend time with her. Kelly loves to run and will do best with a fenced yard (no underground invisible fencing) or a safe place to be able to run in open spaces. She is not currently a good candidate for dog parks, but may be later after training and more socialization. She will need a home with medium activity where she will be loved as part of the family, have daily walks, an opportunity to run and play and experience new adventures.

If Kelly sounds like she may be a good fit for your home, please fill out an application through Carolina Border Collie Rescue CBCR https://www.cbcr.org/adopt/apply-to-adopt The adoption fee for all dogs is $300. For any unaltered dog, there is an additional refundable deposit of $200.
