Meet Skipper!

Skipper is a handsome, happy, bouncy red and white neutered male, either an Australian Shepherd or Aussie-BC mix. He has the natural short tail (6") of an Aussie, and traits of both breeds so we don't really know! According to his records he was born 3/5/26 and is about 35-40 pounds. He is up to date on all shots.

Skipper is timid when first meeting people, but he is getting more socialized. Once comfortable he is a total love bug and adores being petted. He really is a sweetheart. He is very good with other dogs but we have not yet observed him with cats or children. He is probably too bouncy for small children but in general he is good with people once he knows he can trust them.

Skipper was an owner surrender - likely because he is energetic and still learning. This is typical of an older puppy herding breed. He came to us with basically no training and little socialization, but since coming into foster he has learned so much. He is pretty good now with sit, lie down, wait, fetch, and general recall. He is a super star with crate training and rides well in a car, though he is still getting comfortable with getting into cars. He is ok on a leash. House training is good but not perfect; you have to have him on a schedule. He does easily sleep quietly in his crate overnight. He also has been fairly quiet; we have yet to hear him bark much.

Skipper will do best with a home that understands he still has puppy brain and energy, and a home that takes the time to continue his training, socialization, and giving him plenty of exercise. He would also do well with an older, well-behaved dog who can serve as a good role model. He has been a good foster puppy and one day should make an excellent dog for play, walks, and hiking. He just wants to be with his person having fun!
