Barkley is a smart, engaging dog who loves being involved in whatever his people are doing. Whether it's a road trip, a hike, a walk around town, or a quick trip to the store, he enjoys being part of the action and rides exceptionally well in the car. While he appreciates daily activity and adventure, he also enjoys settling down at home and spending time close to his favorite people.
An intelligent dog with a curious mind, Barkley enjoys problem-solving and quickly figures out puzzle toys and new routines. He is attentive, expressive, and forms strong bonds with the people he trusts. Like many bright dogs, he can be sensitive to his environment and will benefit from structure and consistency.
Barkley does well with other dogs, though when comfortable, his play style can sometimes be a little rough and tumble. He has not been around dogs significantly smaller than himself and has no known experience with cats. He is not comfortable with young children who run, grab, or crowd him, so he would do best in a home with older children or adults only.
Barkley currently marks indoors and may urinate inside the home. He will need continued house-training and management, including the use of belly bands if needed. He can also be vocal in the house, particularly out the window, and demand barking. He will benefit from ongoing training and clear expectations.
