Hi, my name is Dax. I am from Minnesota. He originally came in under the hospice program but after vetting assessment it was determined he still has quite a bit of life to live. He has "graduated" and became adoptable.
A few words from his foster: What Lab Doesn't Like Water? This One!
Kiddie pools? Hard pass. Garden hose? Absolutely not. Baths? Let's not get carried away.
Dax may be a Labrador, but he missed the memo about loving water. While most Labs are splashing around at every opportunity, Dax prefers to claim a sunny patch of grass and work on his tan. This wise senior knows exactly what he likes-and exactly what he doesn't. Turn on the garden hose, and you'll find Dax heading in the opposite direction faster than you can say "retriever."
Dax is the definition of easygoing. He has a gentle soul, a wonderful zest for life, and a heart overflowing with love. He's fantastic with kids, gets along with other dogs, and is happiest when he's spending time with his favorite people.
When he's outside, you're more likely to find him stretched out on a cool concrete patio than lounging on an expensive dog bed. If the day gets especially warm, he may even dig himself a little cooling hole in the yard-but let's be honest, he's just helping with the landscaping. Once temperatures hit the 90s, Dax becomes a firm believer that air conditioning is one of humanity's greatest inventions and strongly advocates for indoor relaxation.
Dax also takes his job as household helper very seriously. He'll proudly carry his own leash on walks, happily serve as your co-pilot on car rides, and may occasionally "borrow" a shoe if he suspects you're trying to leave without him. He can experience a little separation anxiety, but with a few simple routines, he settles in. Dax would do best if his person (or all family members)does not work daily outside the home, he does like to supervise
Don't let his age fool you-this guy still has plenty of spark! Dax loves chasing birds and rabbits in the yard and gets downright giddy when it's bedtime. Tell him, "Let's go to bed," and you'll witness an adorable routine: grabbing a favorite stuffie, doing a happy little dance, and zooming off to his bed to tuck himself in for the night. But there better be a pillow on his bed or he will find one and bring it to his bed.
This sweet senior's personality is larger than life. He's not searching for grand adventures anymore; he's looking for companionship, comfort, and a family to call his own. If your idea of the perfect best friend involves sunbathing instead of swimming, leisurely car rides, cozy couch cuddles, and unconditional love, Dax may be exactly who you're looking for.
Give Dax the retirement home he deserves, and he'll reward you with unwavering loyalty, endless affection, plenty of kisses, and the occasional reminder that not all Labs are created equal when it comes to water.
From the vet: Dax has been treated for Blastomycosis, a fungal infection that affected his lungs and skin. After a prolonged treatment with anti-fungal medication, Dax has recovered and is ready to find his forever family. We recommend following up with your primary veterinarian for annual urine antigen testing for Blastomycosis to ensure Dax does not relapse. While relapse is rare, it would require treatment as a new infection.
