Hi, I'm Lakota! I'm an active, intelligent dog who is ready to find a home of my own. I'm obedience trained, crate trained, potty trained, and I love being outdoors. I also enjoy playing with other dogs my size and appreciate friends who can keep up with my energetic, rowdy play style.

I'm a smart dog who enjoys having a job to do, so I'm looking for a home that will keep me busy both physically and mentally. Regular exercise, training, enrichment activities, and opportunities to use my brain help me thrive. I know my commands well and enjoy learning, although I may occasionally test boundaries, so I'll do best with someone who is consistent and confident in their expectations.

I've spent most of my life in rescue, and because of that, I can be cautious when it comes to new people and new situations. I need a patient adopter who understands that trust takes time to build. I can be especially nervous around men when we first meet and do best with a slow, calm introduction. Once I feel comfortable, I'm a loyal companion who loves being part of the family.

I'll also need time to decompress in a new home. I'm not the kind of dog who is ready to jump into busy public outings right away. I am not the type of dog you can bring home on Saturday and take to a crowded coffee shop on Sunday. In fact, I'm not really a coffee-shop-date kind of guy at all, I prefer hikes with my person. Give me time to settle in, learn the routine, and build trust, and you'll see the best version of me emerge. I may have some separation anxiety during my first few days as I adjust, but I settle into a routine well once I feel secure.

I'm athletic and can climb or scale fences, so I'll need a secure yard with a high fence to keep me safe. Cats are too interesting for me, so I'll need a cat-free home.
