FOSTER OR ADOPTER NEEDED
Rook is looking for a very specific kind of home, and we know the right person is out there for him.
This adorable little guy has made huge progress with us and continues to improve every month. Rook has developed solid off-leash listening skills with his e-collar work, responds well to guidance, and does very well once he understands a routine and trusts his handler. He has become much more manageable with handling and now allows gentle collar guidance and structured routines without the major protest behaviors he first arrived with.
Rook is a HIGHLY people-bonded dog. He builds an intense connection with his primary person and wants very badly to be part of the team. He absolutely loves affection, being held, sitting on laps, and staying close to the people he trusts. Because of how strongly he bonds, he can also become demanding of attention if those attachment behaviors are overly reinforced. If ignored by a preferred person, he may increase vocalizing, barking, chirping, or attention-seeking behaviors until he settles again. Structure and balance are important for him.
The Good Stuff:
• Off-leash responsive with e-collar guidance
• Crates well and settles nicely overnight
• Treadmills well and enjoys structure/activity
• Very smart and learns routines quickly
• Social with most dogs once introduced properly
• Currently lives and plays daily with another male Malinois and they genuinely enjoy each other’s company - Funny, quirky, affectionate personality
• Loves cuddling and close physical affection with trusted people
• Extremely rewarding once he trusts you
At first, Rook can appear standoffish or uncertain with new dogs. He may posture a bit or bark when overstimulated, especially if he sees unfamiliar dogs near his space. However, once introductions happen appropriately, he generally relaxes and shows very good play skills. He continues to do well in controlled dog groups.
Rook remains sensitive to unfamiliar people suddenly reaching toward his face or collar area. Crowding him or grabbing unexpectedly can overwhelm him. However, if you give him space, communicate clearly, and let him process appropriately, he is usually very reasonable and continues building trust.
Because of this:
• No children
• Low-chaos home needed
• Limited visitor traffic ideal
• Experienced, patient handler required
We are hoping to find either a committed adopter, OR a foster home for the next 30 days so we can evaluate how Rook does in a quieter, more stable home environment with lower visitor traffic and more consistency.
Rook is not a “plug and play” dog but he is the kind of dog that deeply bonds and becomes incredibly loyal when someone takes the time to understand him. He’s sensitive, smart, hilarious, affectionate, and trying very hard.
If you think you may be the right fit for Rook, please reach out to us asap!
