Peter is a 9-year-old Basset mix who spent years living on the streets of South Texas. These days, he’s discovered the finer things in life: soft beds, sunny spots, short walks, car rides, and plenty of love.

This cuddly gentleman adores his people. When he’s not snoozing, you can usually find Peter following his human from room to room, making sure he isn’t missing anything important (especially belly rubs).

Peter is incredibly friendly with people and loves playing with other dogs. Don’t let his age fool you, he still enjoys making dog friends, going on car rides, and having some fun! He also does well with most cats.

His perfect day is simple: a short stroll, some sunbathing, a good nap (or three), and plenty of time cuddled up with his favorite person.

After spending so many years surviving on his own, Peter deserves a home where he can spend the rest of his days feeling safe, spoiled, and loved.

The Basset Hound is a unique and recognizable breed known for its long body, droopy ears, and soulful eyes. Originating from France, they were originally bred for hunting small game like rabbits due to their keen sense of smell and sturdy build. Despite their laid back and affectionate nature, Basset Hounds are also persistent and independent thinkers, which can make training a bit challenging. With their low energy levels and love for lounging, they make wonderful companion dogs for families seeking a loyal and easygoing pet.
