Basenji Dogs Available for Adoption in Dallas, Texas

Ruby is an incredibly sweet, medium-sized girl estimated to be 3-5 years old. She loves people, treats, affection, and a clean bed- seriously, she won't sit in one that isn't spotless. She's smart, curious, and learns quickly. She has a calm, gentle demeanor and lights up with excitement when it's time to go outside. Ruby was found wandering through back alleys, following people and hoping someone would help her. Since entering her foster home, she's blossomed more each day and has stayed just as loving and sweet as she was from the start.

She is crate trained, spayed, and up to date on vaccines, and she continues to pick up new skills every day. Ruby walks well on leash and keeps improving with consistency and guidance. Her experience with kids, dogs, and cats is currently unknown, but she's eager to connect with people and thrives with positive attention.

We don't know why anyone would abandon such a wonderful dog, but we do know her future family will be incredibly lucky to have her.

The adoption fee for all of our dogs is $300.00 and that includes their vaccinations, spay or neuter, rabies and microchip. Ruby is participating in the DFW Rescue Me guest dog program, so ongoing care and custody is provided by their foster, not by DFWRM.

The Basenji is a small hunting dog known for its unique traits, including a highly distinctive yodel like sound instead of a typical bark, and the inability to bark like other dogs. Originating from Africa, these intelligent and curious dogs are independent, agile, and alert, making them excellent companions for active individuals or families with experience handling their assertive nature. Recognized for their clean habits and cat like grooming behavior, basenjis require regular exercise and mental stimulation to thrive in a loving home environment.
