Ivy - Australian Shepherd Dog for Adoption in Winthrop, Massachusetts

Meet Ivy! This super lovable and intelligent dog is an 8.5-year-old, 58-pound Aussie mix from Wayland, MA. She has a soft coat thats perfect for petting and a fluffy white tail from her Eskimo dog roots.

Her favorite things are belly rubs at nap time (or anytime actually), finding a critter scent to follow or chase, and playtime at the park with her pals. She also loves wading in water and riding with her head out of the car window.

Beginning as a puppy, Ivy bonded well with her family, including two cats! They enjoyed many walks at the park, snuggles on the couch, and playtime in a large yard. For years Ivy thrived in this happy, predictable environment. Unfortunately, her environment is not so steady now that grandchildren are a regular part of the family. Since Ivy has some behavioral challenges with resource guarding, they have safety concerns.

Ivy is actually staying with her sitters/walkers until her forever home comes along. They are confident and experienced with many dogs, and consider Ivy's issues as part of her personality. Ivy even tags along in the school bus and greets all the dogs as they come on board for a fun day out.

Overall Ivy is a sweet, sweet girl. She is looking for an experienced owner who will provide routine and consistency, and of course give her opportunities to socialize and use her sniffer. She needs an adult-only home with a yard. After assuring compatibility, she may live with a resident dog or cat, but no children.

When not on her home turf, Ivy is generally friendly with dogs and humans alike. For example, Ivy is fine at the park having another dog snatch up a dog treat that is right under her nose. However, she once bit one of her owners guests over food that fell on the floor. With her history of being protective of things and people, her adopter must understand resource guarding, avoid situations that trigger guarding, and tell visitors how they should respond or not respond.

With the guidance of the sitters/walkers she is currently living with, Ivys adopter(s) will have a meaningful and lasting relationship with this lovely dog.
