What we know: Riley was adopted from CPR in 2021. In April of 2026, Riley's adopters reached out to say they needed to surrender her for housing reasons, and only had two weeks to do so. We let them know we would search for a foster. Close to the end of the two weeks/possibly just past, we reached out to say we had someone, but there was no response. Shortly after that, we received a notification from the microchip company that Riley had been marked as "lost" in their system by her owner.
August 1, 2026, we received a microchip notification that Riley's chip had been scanned at a shelter in Teller County, CO (about 90 miles away). Riley had been found as a stray. Her stray hold was up August 5th and it appears the owners either never responded to the shelter's calls or did and let them know they wouldn't be picking her up, because the shelter contacted CPR and told us we could take her.
Riley was picked up and placed in foster on August 5, 2026.
From the foster: My bio is coming soon!

ABOUT: AUSTRALIAN SHEPHERD DOG BREED
The Australian Shepherd is a highly intelligent and energetic herding dog known for its loyalty and work ethic. Originating in the United States, despite its name, this breed is prized for its agility, trainability, and versatility in various dog sports and activities. Australian Shepherds have a distinctive medium length coat that comes in different colors, often with unique merle patterns. With proper training, socialization, and exercise, these dogs make excellent companions for active families and individuals seeking a devoted and playful four legged friend.
The mixed breed dogs, often referred to as mutts, are a diverse and unique group with a blend of different characteristics from various purebred dog breeds. These dogs come from a mixture of lineages, resulting in a wide range of sizes, coat types, and temperaments. While each mixed breed dog is distinct in its own right, they are known for their resilience, adaptability, and often have fewer health issues compared to purebred dogs due to their genetic diversity. Mixed breed dogs make wonderful companions for families looking for a loyal and one-of-a-kind pet.
