Larry – 2 years old, 20 lbs, Mini Australian Shepherd mix
Larry is a small, beautiful Mini Aussie mix with a soft, fluffy coat and a very gentle soul.
He was found surviving on the streets together with a group of puppies who were clearly related to him — most likely a little family trying to survive together. Because of his past, Larry has not had much reason to trust people, and life taught him to be careful.
Larry is shy and cautious with humans at first. Like many fearful small dogs, during the first days he may hide, avoid contact, growl, show his teeth, or even try to nip if he feels cornered or pushed too quickly. This is fear-based behavior, not aggression. He simply does not yet understand that he is safe.
Larry will need an experienced owner who understands how to work with fearful dogs and understands that it may take several weeks, or even a month, before he fully begins to trust and bond with his new person.
His future family must have experience with shy or scared dogs, a calm and patient approach, a private home, and a securely fenced yard.
Once Larry begins to trust, he slowly turns into an incredibly sweet, loving, and deeply devoted little dog. Underneath his fear is a soft-hearted boy who wants to feel safe and loved.
Dogs like Larry are not “instant” dogs. They require patience, compassion, and understanding. But the people who open their hearts to dogs like him often end up with the most loyal and special companions imaginable.
If you are willing to give Larry a real chance, he may become one of the best little friends you will ever have.
