Josie Has Absolutely Nothing to Prove

Our girl Josie is one of those dogs who seems to have arrived on Earth already pretty pleased with the arrangements. Other dogs? Loves them. People? Huge fan. Outside? Wonderful. Laying beside somebody while they pet her for an unreasonable amount of time? Finally, a serious activity.

Josie is happy-go-lucky in the truest sense. Outside, she’ll head off with her pup siblings to explore the yard, play, investigate whatever everybody is staring at, and generally enjoy herself. She doesn’t need to lead the expedition. She doesn’t even need to know where they’re going. Josie saw the group leaving and assumed transportation had been arranged. She would LOVE a pup sibling in her forever home—someone to romp around with, explore beside, and help show her the ropes as she grows up.

But Josie really, really loves her people. Every so often she’ll wander away from whatever the dogs are doing and come over for some affection. Not nervously. Not because she needs reassurance. More like, Oh hey. There you are. Pet me.

And you will. Maybe she heads back to her friends after a minute. Maybe she decides whatever they’re doing can wait because your hand is currently doing excellent work. Josie is very comfortable with either outcome.

And when outside time winds down, this girl is perfectly happy laying right beside you and settling in for the long haul. She doesn’t need another activity. She doesn’t need you to entertain her. She would just like you to keep doing that thing with your hand. Yes. Right there.

This also happens to be excellent news for training because Josie is wicked smart and eager to please. She pays attention, catches on quickly, and affection is one of her biggest motivators. Some dogs need cheese. Some need chicken. Josie may very well learn algebra if you tell her she’s a good girl enthusiastically enough. We have not tested algebra.

And then there’s the obvious: Josie is absolutely STUNNING. Her coat is incredible—thick and soft while still short, with the most beautiful gray-and-white coloring and markings. She’s one of those dogs who catches your eye immediately, and then you meet her and realize somehow her personality is even better.

Born in May, Josie is about 20 pounds now and expected to grow to around 50. She’s smart, affectionate, playful, dog-loving, people-loving, confident, and beautifully balanced. She’ll explore when there’s exploring to do, play when somebody wants to play, and happily settle when the day gets quiet. And somewhere in between, she’ll wander over and remind you that you could technically be petting Josie right now.

Somebody is going to notice Josie because she’s gorgeous. Then they’re going to discover the smart little brain, the happy-go-lucky personality, the way she loves her pup sibling, and how perfectly content she is just being part of whatever the day brings.

At first, those little visits for affection will just be something cute Josie does. She’ll wander over from playing, lean in for some love, and maybe head back out. Or maybe she’ll decide your hand is doing excellent work and stay awhile.

And somewhere along the way, without anybody really noticing when it happened, Josie won’t be the dog coming over to see what you’re doing anymore.

She’ll just be your dog. Your adventure buddy. Your dog’s best friend.
And somehow, that spot beside you will feel like it was always supposed to have Josie in it.
