Smokey - Australian Shepherd Dog for Adoption in Lancaster, Kentucky

This handsome boy is a 2-year-old Australian Shepherd who weighs only 22.5lbs. A pint-sized Aussie with a BIG personality!

Smokey is sooo sweet, loving, and eager to please. His favorite place is wherever his person is. He is perfectly happy to give you his full attention and soak up all the love you have to offer. And being an Aussie, he has all the brains to go along with that adorable face!

Smokey is:
• House trained
• Crate trained
• Leash trained
• Friendly, playful, and affectionate
• Great with other dogs
• Has shown no interest in cats so far (cats have only been seen safely in crates/carriers)

He is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, dewormed, on flea/tick preventative, and Heartworm 4DX negative.
Smokey did test positive for exposure to Lyme disease. This does NOT mean he is sick. It simply means he has been exposed at some point. If he ever develops symptoms, he would need to be evaluated by a veterinarian for appropriate treatment.

Since he is an Australian Shepherd, we want to be honest about the breed. Herding and nipping can be traits in Aussies and other herding breeds, although we have NOT seen any of that behavior from Smokey. Sadly, many herding dogs end up surrendered because of these natural behaviors, which is not the dog's fault. They are intelligent, loyal dogs who often simply need understanding, training, and an outlet for their instincts.

Smokey is incredibly loyal, smart, affectionate, and just wants someone to call his own. If you're looking for a little Aussie who will happily follow you around and be your best buddy, Smokey might be your guy.

If you are interested in adopting, please start with an adoption application on our website:

Our first step is always the application. Please do not call, text, email, or stop by simply to express interest in an animal. Once applications are reviewed, we will contact the applicants who appear to be the best fit to arrange a meet and greet.
