Imagine blowing out your 11th birthday candle at home... and spending the very next night in a shelter kennel.
For nearly 11 years, Alex knew only love. Every single September 21st, his family made him his favorite tradition: a homemade dinner of chicken and rice followed by a big birthday cookie. He was cherished. Loved. Family.
Then came the day every pet parent dreads.
Just one day after celebrating his 11th birthday, Alex’s world shifted. His dad was completely devastated when he walked him through our doors on September 22nd. Surrendering him was a crushing, last-resort decision brought on by a family member's worsening allergies and asthma, a frightened toddler, and a move without a yard. They fought endlessly to keep him from this fate, reaching out to rescues, vets, and boards across the state. But when every single door closed, bringing him to us was the hardest thing he ever had to do.
Now, this sweet senior sits in a kennel, wondering why the only life he's ever known is gone. Seniors give their whole lives to us, and sitting in a shelter at 11 years old is a very confusing change.
Yet despite losing everything he knew, Alex’s spirit isn't broken. He hasn't gotten the memo about his age; he still has all his young-dog pep, runs like the wind, and lives for a good game of fetch.
Alex is housebroken, crate trained, and a graduate of Off-Leash K9 Training! He knows his commands inside and out (though he occasionally likes to play the "selective hearing" card). He would love a home where he can run around and a patient leader who doesn't mind working with him on leash pulling. He has lived as a solo pet, so we recommend a dog-for-dog meet-and-greet to see if he'd enjoy a sibling. He is great with kids, prefers a gentle hand with a nail grinder for paw care, and likes to enjoy his meals in peace, undisturbed.
His heartbroken owner wanted to ensure nothing stood in the way of his second chance, so his adoption fee has been FULLY COVERED!
There are NO GEOGRAPHIC RESTRICTIONS; anyone from any locality or state is welcome to adopt this sweet boy.
Please help us write a happy ending to Alex's story. Let's make sure his 12th birthday is spent getting his chicken and rice in a loving home.
