Katy - Australian Cattle Dog Blue Heeler and Pointer Dog for Adoption in South Elgin, Illinois

Katy is a 3-year-old, 26-pound black and white cutie with a gentle, watchful nature and a big heart once she feels safe.

Katy is looking for a calm, adult-only home where her boundaries are understood and respected. She can be unsure when meeting new people and does best when she's allowed to set the pace for interactions. With patience and consistency, she builds trust-but she needs time and space to get there.

She has shown she can live with cats and may be a good match for a quieter household with a predictable routine. Katy can be more sensitive around men or masculine-presenting individuals, especially ones with facial hair/beards, and may react when she feels uncomfortable, so slow introductions and a low-stress environment are important for her success.

For someone willing to go slow and let her confidence grow naturally, Katy offers a rewarding bond with a loyal companion who blossoms when she feels secure.

The Australian Cattle Dog, also known as the Blue Heeler, is a hardworking and intelligent breed originally developed in Australia for herding cattle. Renowned for their endurance and agility, these medium sized dogs have a striking blue or red speckled coat and alert, curious expression. With a strong herding instinct and boundless energy, they require mental stimulation and physical activity to thrive. Blue Heelers are loyal, protective, and make excellent companions for active individuals or families willing to provide the engagement and exercise they need.

The Pointer is a versatile and athletic dog breed known for its exceptional hunting skills and high energy levels. With a strong, sleek build and keen sense of smell, Pointers excel in bird hunting, especially in open fields. Their short coat requires minimal grooming, and their friendly nature and loyal temperament make them beloved members of the family.
