Charlie — Professional Road Tripper, Amateur Livestock Manager
Charlie’s story begins with a bit of a mystery.
In the middle of July, this handsome guy wandered onto a rural property hungry, muddy, and sporting enough matted hair to suggest he’d been on his own for a while. But underneath all of that was a friendly, well-mannered dog who clearly knew what it meant to belong to someone.
Charlie arrived already neutered. He knows basic commands. He walks on a leash. He understands a kennel. Open a car door and he hops right in and out like a seasoned road-trip professional. Somewhere along the way, someone taught Charlie how to be a family dog.
Unfortunately, despite exhausting every avenue available to locate his previous owner, no one ever came looking for him.
So, Charlie became a NALA Rescue dog — and now we get to help him find the family that won’t lose track of him.
Charlie is an affectionate, people-loving guy who wants to be part of whatever his humans are doing. Going for a walk? Charlie’s in. Taking a car ride? SHOTGUN. Opening a bag of snacks anywhere within a three-mile radius? Charlie has already reported for duty.
There is, however, one important thing you should know about our friend Charlie:
Charlie has places to go and people to meet.
Given the opportunity, this adventurous gentleman WILL wander off to see what the neighbors are doing. His future home will need a secure fence, or Charlie will need to remain leashed whenever he’s outside. His days as a free-range country dog are officially over.
Charlie also appears to have some strong herding-dog instincts. He attempts to herd the dogs and cats in his foster home, apparently believing someone has finally hired him to bring a little order to the place.
The resident animals have informed management that they did not request his services.
Because of this, Charlie may be happiest as the only pet in his home. A home experienced with herding breeds—or with resident animals who won’t be bothered by his need to supervise everybody—could also be a possibility with appropriate introductions.
At his core, Charlie is exactly what so many people are looking for: a friendly, devoted companion who already knows the basics and absolutely loves being with his people.
His past may be a mystery, but we know what Charlie would like his future to include:
Walkies. Snackies. Car rides. His own people. And preferably absolutely no unsupervised opportunities to embark on another cross-country adventure.
Charlie has already done enough wandering.
Now he just needs somewhere worth staying.
