Mars is like the stars; bright, fiery and expansive.
Mars is a 3 year old, 60lbs Blue Heeler, German Shepard mix who lives up to the temperament of those breeds. Mars is fixed, vaccinated and potty trained. She is energetic, protective and loyal to the bone.
Mars thrives with a steady routine that involves mental, physical and connective stimulation. She is very attuned to and affected by the emotions of people around her and she will reflect the energy you give to her. Mars has a sense of humor that can’t quite be described, only experienced.
She is silly, smart and adventurous. With consistent and attentive training, Mars can learn new commands and tricks within one or two training sessions. She is very eager to learn and explore. Her favorite activities involve frolicking through open fields, standing in a river while you throw rocks for her to chase, climbing fallen trees, getting sprayed with a garden hose and participating in any activity that has your focus.
Mars was found scared and flea ridden in a parking lot when she was 2 months old. When first found, she was very trepidatious around new people and scared of the dark. Mars is still nervous about meeting new people, but once she recognizes that she is safe, Mars will insist on being a lap dog and playing with whoever she encounters. She grew up around dogs and going to the dog park, but recently has started to prefer familiar dogs she grew up with. She will need slow intros to new dogs, and would thrive as the one and only!
Mars has lived with cats for most of her life, with the only issues being trying to herd them and the occasional growl when food is involved. Mars will seek freedom above common sense, so she must remain on leash and will come with a 30ft long leash for adventures into the great outdoors.
She is a cuddlebug. If you are crying she will lick your tears away, if you are excited she will be up and wiggling. Mars loves to dance (weaving in and out of legs, we call it doggydisco), play soccer and basketball (she can’t shoot, but she can puppyguard) and skateboard.
An ideal home for her would have a person who lives a consistent lifestyle, who loves going on adventures outdoors, who is well versed in dog behavior and training with an understanding of reactivity and the capacity for patience and compassion. She would make an ideal farm dog, or hiking partner. In a loving environment, full of intentional connection and enrichment, Mars will become the best friend that cheers you up, encourages you to stay present, takes you on adventures, makes you laugh, keeps you warm at night and has your back no matter what.
