Heartworm Positive Please Dont Let That Scare You Away
This sweet pup is currently heartworm positive and being treated using the slow kill method under veterinary guidance. While heartworms can be serious if left untreated, many dogs go on to live long, happy, healthy lives with proper care and treatment.
The slow kill protocol typically includes medications such as doxycycline and prednisone (sometimes paired with monthly preventatives) to safely weaken and eliminate the heartworms over time while reducing inflammation and stress on the body. This dog has also received ProHeart 12 heartworm preventative coverage. We will gladly send this dogs current medications along with them to their forever home.
Of course, we always encourage adopters to speak with their own veterinarian for guidance and follow-up testing. Some dogs test negative after treatment, while others may need additional rounds of medication in the future. The good news is that doxycycline is generally very affordable and can often be obtained through low-cost clinics, humane societies, or local veterinarians.
Most importantly this dog deserves love just as much as any other dog.
Please dont let a heartworm diagnosis keep you from meeting an amazing companion.
