Meet Betsy

A Sweetheart Who Loves Everyone!

Looking for a gentle, affectionate companion who's wonderful with kids, dogs, AND cats? Meet Betsy!

Betsy is one of those special dogs who makes you wonder how she hasn't been scooped up already.

This beautiful girl arrived at the Chillicothe Animal Shelter in January 2026, along with her brother. After spending months waiting for a family, she's ready to find a home where she can finally be someone's beloved companion.

And if there's one thing we've learned about Betsy, it's that she has a heart full of love to give!

Betsy has a naturally sweet, gentle, and somewhat submissive personality. She's not the type of dog who needs to be in charge. Instead, she's happy to go with the flow and enjoy the company of those around her.

One of Betsy's most endearing qualities is how much she loves children! Just look at the photos of her soaking up hugs and affection from a little person. She clearly enjoys being close to people and sharing those special moments.

And her wonderful personality doesn't stop there!

- Great with other dogs! Betsy has a submissive, easygoing temperament that makes her a promising companion for homes with other friendly dogs.

- Good with cats! She's also shown that she can peacefully share her space with feline friends.

- Loves children! Betsy enjoys affection and attention from kids and has a gentle way about her.

- Sweet and affectionate! Whether she's getting a hug, enjoying some attention, or simply spending time with her people, Betsy seems happiest when she's feeling loved.

We think Betsy could be a wonderful addition to many different types of families. She would likely enjoy having another friendly dog in the home, but most importantly, she wants people who will include her in their everyday lives.

After spending so many months in a shelter, Betsy deserves to experience all the little things that make having a family so special.

A soft place to sleep.

And people who will love her for the rest of her life.

Betsy isn't asking for much. She just wants to belong.

If you're looking for a gentle, loving dog who could fit beautifully into a family with children and other pets, Betsy may be exactly who you've been searching for.

Come meet Betsy. We have a feeling she'll steal your heart.

About Day of the Dogs
Day of the Dogs is a volunteer-driven 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to helping shelter and rescue dogs find safety, families, and second chances.
Founded in 2015 by a Kansas City native, Day of the Dogs began after Pam moved to Houston, Texas and witnessed firsthand the devastating shelter overcrowding crisis facing southern communities, where some shelters have only days to find an outcome for homeless pets.
Today, Day of the Dogs coordinates life-saving transports from Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and other southern areas to rescue partners, shelters, fosters, and adopters in Northwest Indiana/Chicagoland and the Kansas City region — communities where adoption demand can help create better outcomes for pets in need. We also focus on long stay dogs in the Greater Kansas City and surrounding rural areas to help those pets get out of kennels and into homes.
We also facilitate direct adoptions through our foster networks in both Kansas City and Northwest Indiana and partner with shelters and rescue organizations across Missouri, Kansas, Illinois, and Indiana to save more lives together.
Because every open foster home creates another opportunity to save a dog, we are always looking for foster families to join our mission.
Day of the Dogs operates entirely on donations. Every transport, veterinary appointment, supply purchase, and life saved is possible because of supporters who believe every dog deserves a chance.
